Snarepaint;

I don't know you but, what lawsuits? Perhaps you should explain that one, in a PM??

-------------

So, to get this thread back on track:

What to buy, right?

1. What groups drums do you like the sound of when they play?
2. What heads do they use?
3. How do they tune and muffle to get that sound?

If you can find those answers then you will know which drums you will want for your group.

Everyone has good and bad stories about every company and product. I could line up people all day who could say good and bad things about any company.

The products any company makes are tools, find what tools are going to work best for you and use them. We all choose our tools based upon our preferences...

Let's have fun drumming with the tools of our choice and all will be well!

Yes, corps only use their equipment for two years, yet how many high schools practice every day for three months straight (with 12+ hour practices) and take the drums on tour, meaning that drums are put on busses and taken off daily, not to mention the beating they take while driving (even if they are in cases...cases dont prevent problems, they only make them less likely). I think someone estimated one time that a year of corps is similar to five years of high school.

That comment about not needing other drum companies slayed me - that has nothing at all to do with the reason why there are different companies. Ever heard of capitalism and free market and all that? We need more than one company for competition in order to have quality products. Any owner of a Troby will tell you that.

And I have an extremely hard time believing that hardware would vibrate itself loose...I had a rather hard time getting the lugs OFF in the first place when I was switching to the six and eight inch spock setup. Not saying that you're lying; I just have a hard time seeing that happening.

As for drums sounding bad at low tension - exactly how low was the drum tuned? Floor tom-low? My friend bought a Dynasty snare, and it sounded fine not being reefed. It wasn't even cranked that high at all, and it sounded fine. And think about it, please - why would a bass drum (think drumset here, not battery) sound good with 45 degree bearing edges? That's not even why they do a rounded bearing edge - that's to give the drum a "fatter" sound, slightly lower fundamental tone.

Why the hell would you evaluate the quality of a company based on sponsorship deals? What if Regal Tip had the most amazing sponsorship deal? That wouldn't change the fact that the product is crap. What if Yamaha didn't even offer a sponsorship deal?

You guys are all going brand-crazy. Y'all need to stop bickering for like two seconds and realize that it isn't the drum that makes the drummer - it's now the drummer plays the drum. Go practice or something.

What I was saying, that Pearls can go lower than other brands and still sound good because of the fundamental low-end and rounded bearing edges. You hear more of it. They don't go a lot lower, but enough to make a difference. If you don't believe me, I tried this out with my friend. We tuned the 14 inch drum down on a Yamaha and a Pearl set of tenors (both with the same heads). The Yamaha started sounding like a paper bag faster than the Pearl. We tuned them by pitch, slowly down, and both at the same pitch. For more proof, if anyone wants, I'll borrow my parent's video camera (if they let me) and make a video of it on the 10 inch. In my opinion though, get Pearls for your line because they have the best prices, and durability. Like I said, with a little maintenence and patience, they can last for 12 years. I'm not kidding. Actually, Pearl, Yamaha and Dynasty are all really good instrument makers, so no one should be bashing them, and you should get whichever brand fits your situation. If what I gathered about your line is true, then Pearls would best fit your line.

i have played on all four Major Brands... (We use premiers)

lets get out of all the Legal stuff... all the Slander you overhear from someone else... none of this "He said/She said" stuff... if you played on it... then Reccomend it or not... if you havent played on it... then dont Do either...

and the people Bashing Dynasty... is it because you really dont like them? or you just have this Mindset that they are a Newer company... and they make Quality stuff that is fastly becoming the best on the MArket... and they are only a fad and they must die? thats what it sounds like... no offense anyone...

i personally will reccomend Dynasty... Not because i love BD... not because they are a FAD.. but because they are freaking good Drums... now all the top three companies make Freaking good drums... but overlooking all the pros and cons of each brand... i have seen dynasty with the Least MAJOR problems...
Of course you will never Eliminate all the problems with a Drum... but i believe Dynasty Comes closest to perfection...

My List:

1. Dynasty
2. (a VERY close second) Pearl
3. Yamaha

My opinion... if you dont like it... then you dont... no big Deal
