I would have to say '99 Cadets, so I could have pulled a Michael 'Fetus' Terry and march for 6+ years (as he is currently doing). Seeing the Cadets in 1999 was my first drum corps experience. Ever since, I have been a drum corps nut. I have listened further back by purchasing the Cadets 80's and 90's anthology CDs, and I have found that I really love their style. Something indescribable hits me when I hear the sound of their hornlines, or the drumlines playing during the ballad. The Cadets move me like no other, and I finally realized it this year. The lines of '99 and '00 just really made an impression on me. Other than that , my list is as follows for the past 25 years: SCV '80-81, Bridgemen '82, Cadets '83-87, BD '88, Cadets '89, BD '90, Cavaliers '91, SCV '92, Star '93, Cavaliers '94, Cadets '95, Phantom '96, Cadets '97-98, SCV '99, and Cadets '00-'05. I'm going to include Cadets '06 and '07 as well, as '07 is my age-out and I hope to be marching it in a maroon uniform

I would choose the 1993 Star of Indiana percussion section. It was the best writing and best execution I have ever heard.

Star 1993. Interesting
If he means the pit when referring to the Star 1993 percussion "section", then I could agree Rob. While they did not have the beefy, meaty runs of old, they certainly had the most "concert" style approach to writing and playing.

Glassmen '01 - Sweet, sweet, sweet book, insanely clean beats, and taught by McNutt, who is the MAN. Blue Knights '95 - Some very tasty stuff. Star '93 - I mean, seriously, come on... this doesn't even need to be explained.
I must admit, last year, both Madison and Phantom were laying down some pretty great stuff battery-wise, too.

They'd said that the staff would actually openly talk very negatively of other corps, playing Star up as so much better than everyone else. Lord knows, they LIVED better than most! haha
"Thank you very much, you have a very nice drum corps . . . . "
As for me: Star '91 Mellophone line. Running in circles while playing lightning fast runs near perfectly clean . . . excuse while I go wash up.

I think the only thing I disagree on is '92 SCV. Nothing against the guys in the line, but Fiddler on the Roof just didn't do anything for me. Personally, I'd rather have been in SCV in '91. I remember seeing them at the Concord Pavilion show before the season and thinking that they were gonna win drums that year. They were that good that early.
I agree. Great guys on the '92 line, but I did not like that show at all.

Love the 'Office Space' quote, but the '92 BD show (thankfully) had nothing to do with Michael Bolton. The original was by Percy Sledge and BD based their version from a Bette Midler arrangement.

first Drum Corps show I ever saw was in '86, the only show they lost that year..wow!
Sounds like you were one hell of a good luck charm.
Coincidentally, you played in the first drum corps show I ever saw -- the Pavilion show in 1990.

I have always been a big BD fan, and I saw this show in Tupelo...but when I saw Phantom's line this past year I thought they definatly had the best percussion section, both musically and chops wise.

Def Cavies 90-92 especially 92. It was the total package. The uniforms, notes, and visuals all just blended together into something indescribable. And it was really loud. Later lines came close to being that cool, 2000 in particular, but obviously it will never be like it was and there weren’t anymore Jim Campbell notes after 93. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRNYh7PjsvgAhhhh, the good ol' days before we had trumpets, singers, a dozen perc features that all sound the same, and saxophones in I&E. <sigh and rocking chair creaking>

Wow, you are old! Hey, were your drums carved out of trees and was your tap off "ugg, ugg, ugg, ugg"? Just kidding! Hey Hangman do you remember a corp that was in the VFW league by the name of the Dundee Scotts from Dundee Ill.? My dad was a post commander of a VFW back in those days '67-'75, and his post sponsored them. I remember going to watch them with my dad, also my dads post did a ton of parades with them around the Chicago area. I see you're from E. St Louis, I probably have seen you since you marched with the Knights. Anyway, all you guys were the inspiration for me to get into DCI, well, that and my dad pushing me into it (dads are so smart!). But I can remember going to the VFW's version of I&E with the Scott's, those guys had some killer chops back then! There was this one guy who did this thing where he back sticked a flammed six stroke something another, anyway it was cool for that time! Oh hey, SCV I watched you when you marched center snare in the Troopers and you guys really did splits back then? You were light years ahead of any one! Ha I have even seen Hardimon and Float march. Wow now I sound old!
