DLOFDC Seeks New Executive Director

Drumlines.org Fantasy Drum Corps is seeking a new Executive Director for Season 3 and on. Current Executive Director, Mark Bernal, will be stepping down when the right candidate is found. Opportunities in DCI will prevent Mark from continuing his duties to DLOFDC. "Well, an opportunity arose for me to be on staff with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle corps," said Mr. Bernal. "Being on the road full time with the Cavaliers would make it impossible for me to be Executive Director for DLOFDC and run it efficiently." In light of the news, the search is on for a new Executive Director. There may be promotion from within the Board of Directors, but its the feeling of Mr. Bernal to find out if there is anyone interested in taking over the mammoth responsibilities associated with the job. Along with being Exec. Director, the possible candidate will need to be home throughout the spring and the summer. Also, the candidate will have a strong knowledge of drum and bugle corps, as well as some profiency in computer skills and Excel. Finally, the possible candidate will have to show a strong committment to continuing the tradition of DLOFDC here on drumlines.org. Last season was the biggest yet with nearly 90 fantasy corps over 3 divisions. The hopes from Mr. Bernal and the rest of the board is that that will grow and become more refined for the next season. IF you are interested in submitting your name for consideration, reply here expressing your interest and the corps you were director of, if applicable. Consideration will be offered to those who are new to DLOFDC, but those who were fantasy directors will be at an advantage. Depending on the number of applicants interested, we will narrow down the field to around 3 or 4 candidates and make the decision from there. Once the new director is named, he/she will work closely with Mark(bernie_vkpit) and Senior Board member Josh(dlwebmaestro) to learn the details and inner workings of the day to day operations. Once the transition is complete, Mr. Bernal will be available to consult with questions and such, but his role will simply be "Executive Director Emeritus". Get your names in if interested! Deadline for submitting your name for consideration is January 15th, 2005.

I am applying for this position. I am good at excel and other computer things. Since I have no life during summer other than drumming and small random things, I will be here to run it. I haven't directed a Fantasy corp, but I have watched the fantasy corp forums closely during the on season.

not to jump on the bandwagon, but i just read your profile (elizabeth) if you were born in 1980, you started teaching when you were 14? i figure i started early, but seriously now. 14? my 14 year old cousing could not teach another person how to use the microwave, let a lone, teach a person or group anything about marching or any instrument.
and more comes out....
in the profile on RCR's website elizabeth's age is 19, but unless i can't do math, if your born in 1980 you're not 19, or if you're 19, you weren't born in 1980.
that can be found here

i guess besides the fact that other people at fontana have the internet, there are people in other forums that use DLO...so maybe a good tip would be to lie consistantly? j/k i would like to know how the search is going for the new director

Honestly, I dont think people understand how much time is involved in this... Last season, Mark, Josh, and I waited until 3 or even 4 a.m. sometimes waiting for recaps on DCI's website... Unless someone can prove their extreme devotion or...has the perfect schedule for this, then I would say that its possible we may suspend the FDC. Don't forget though, there's many months until the official season starts, so there's plenty of time for a person who perfectly fits the profile to come around.

I won't apply for the executive position, but I can assist at times with putting scores up, keeping people updated and such. AS for dedication, Josh and Mark should be able to atest for my dedication at times because I remember being up bugging them about why certain scores weren't in.

Here's an update after being at the Cavaliers camp all weekend: The search is still on! For the most part, we like the people who are submitting their names for consideration. Kevin is right though....if you cant get your poop straight about lying consistently, then why would we(I) want you to take over a huge responsibility? The search is still on though...and not because we dont like those who have submitted their names.

I especially love how demonllama gets to post all of liz's falsified information and the mods get to tease her about lying, but I express the way I feel and voice my opinion and my post gets edited, to say the least. Nice job. . . I'm glad all of us here at DLO are able to be who we are and speak our minds. Make sure you delete this post too. . . Silenced.

You've already pushed this idea and stepped out of line once, please don't take an attitude about it. I would say more, but it relates to the original post, so I will let this go.

The truth is you have no idea the extent of what we know and why we act the way we do regarding your complaint. What you see and read is only skin deep as far as you know (about the issue you brought up). I edited that because in the past our mature users who wish to bring issues up to the DLO administration's attention, did so by PM or e-mail. We welcome all sorts of comments. If we didn't, we wouldn't be able to provide a well operated site.
Now, if you truely have a problem, you can direct your comments into a PM or email to Josh or any other moderator here. It will get read and it will get discussed amongst the staff.
If you had read the rules ( Section 12 ), then you would've been able to figure out the appropriate way to deal with this.
Until then, this will be discussed no more.

Hi. My name is Thomas Cardenas, and i'm currently running for the position in consideration, which is the DLOFDC Executive Director. I am very much qualified for this position. I have ample skills for running the excel program if I had it - I have some weird new program that came with my Xp package that is a different type of excel. I am also up to about 3-4 a.m. during the summer, waiting for captions to be placed on DCI's website. Now, my goal as the director would be to use a lock box. Now in this lock box, I will keep all valuable information in it. The key for this FDC is to keep all score data in this box so that not only will the data would be in the DLO server, but it would also have a hard copy of it's self in the lock box. Now think to yourself ......... self, would this guy and his lock box plan benefit me? Of course it would. Having a hard copy of information is always useful to the staff when the staff needs to have a discussion: maybe on allowing more caption changes like Mark did last season for an example. I'm Thomas Cardenas, and your logical choice for the next DLOFDC Executive Director. < end sarcasm >

I hope you don't mind if I test you...
Sure a hard copy is nice. But how is that hard copy going to benefit me if you're offline? Since you would be the only one with the hard copy, correct?
Also, why would a hard copy be beneficial if DCI.org has the scores online and backed up? I say that because if you lose the scores that is all you should loose. If you were to be wise you would have the equations backed up on your computer. And you can't really get a hard copy of that, the best your could do is burn it on a disc, and even that can be destroyed and damaged.
So, given the scores are up on DCI.org, which would theorectically be your primary source for score, why would it be any easier to enter scores off a sheet when they're online and you can copy and paste?
Sorry, if you feel singled out. However, you were the only one who made any promises Thomas. Everybody else just talked about how they are qualified for the job.
Please, support what you say you will do. It only will make you stronger.

Mike,
Of course, it would be a lot easier to copy and paste the scores from DCI’s webpage. That would not be what the hard copy would be for. The hard copy of the scores would serve as a quick reference for when the staff has a meeting like in an AIM chatroom. It’s just easier to flip though a piece of paper for each performance day rather than having to read through the saved information on the computer. It’s just a little time saver for the staff to have, which means each staff member should have it, when going into a discussion about making a change with the scoring/caption choosing.
Also, another thing you would need to think about is if the dci server is down, then the executive committee could make a more accurate scoring system for missed days by just looking at the piece of paper instead of flipping Microsoft windows from word to excel and back again.
One more thing….having more then one backup of the equation system for excel is always a plus. Of course I would have a digital backup of it, but if it would get deleted, I would have a hard copy of this equation so I could just enter it again into excel and save it digitally again. The hard copy of the equation would just be a mathematical equation, so yes it would be easy to have it typed out in word format.
Also, I was trying to pull a joke off of Saturday Night Live. Gotta love Al Gore with the lock box debates. and personally, I don’t really care if I get put on the spot….when I come out of that situation, it always makes me stronger.
