Well, Season 2 is in the books! This season was by far a better season than season 1. Granted, season 1 was an "experiment" more than a season, the ground work was layed for a great summer season. Congrats to Whiskey River Regiment and YogiBoo for tying for the Championship! If you missed the dual victory concert put on by both the corps, make sure you check it out on video! Also , congrats to our Div 2 winner Dry Creek Bed Legion, and our Div 3 winner Jackson Flares. As was traditional at the end of every regional in Div 1, a "power rankings" was posted to let everyone know where other corps stood amongst the competition. Unfortunately, the author was attending several DCI shows this summer..not to mention working full time! So time for that became scarce. However, now is the time to fulfill the neglected obligation of a power rankings, so here we go!
Div 1
Whiskey River Regiment- In their second year of
DLOFDC, WRR continued their dynasty like dominance overall. Hampered by an unknown start and inconsistency throughout the season, the corps managed to pull out all the stops at the end of the season and take home the trophy as co-champions. A solid year for the Smith organization.
YogiBoo - For the second season in a row, the corps displayed it's top to bottom dominance throughout the season. Although the corps slipped a little througout the latter half of the season, the corps came roaring back with a improved music performance and came from second place at quarters and semis to take the title with co-champion WRR. This was the 4th tie of the season between the two corps.
Jackon Flares - The surprise corps of the season. Coming out of NOWHERE to win the Div 3 title, the corps continued their rapid progression through Div 1 semis and into finals with a third place position. The corps will make a jump from Div 3 to Div 1 next season.
definately the Magic of Orlando 2002 of
DLOFDC. Kudos.
The Guardsmen - For a short while, The Guardsmen displayed a dominance that put
alot a lot of fear into the top corps. After winning the Allentown regional, and a few of the final shows of the season, they were the clear cut favorite to win it all. But they were hampered by a drop in GE and Visual scores to put them in 4th place. A solid overall effort.
VK Star - Another second season corps out of the New England area. VK Star started off fast with strong captions across the board. They appeared to be a corps that showed
alot a lot of promise and possibly the right show to take the title. After a mid season change in several captions, and a major change in the percussion department, the corps slipped from third at quarters and semi's into what would eventually be a 5th place finish. The corps worked hard, but was
definately underappreciated on the field. The Phantom Regiment of
DLOFDC.
Kama Sutra - After being near the bottom of
DLOFDC Div 1 all season long, the corps bounced back in a tremendous fashion to place 6th at DIV 1 finals. Hampered by injuries and a show that didn't seem to go anywhere, the "sutra" pulled it together at the end to climb back into top 12 just in time to make finals. A good outing this season for the corps.
DC Scandals - Last season's fan favorite, the corps came out this year with a entirely new approach to the field. Though up and down throughout the entire season, the corps place 7th overall for a solid season. Groundwork was
definately laid for Season 3. The Madison Scouts of
DLOFDC.
Sparkle! - Everyones favorite "alternative" corps! Sparkle! wowed audiences and judges alike with a flashy show, desire to entertain, and "nimbleness" of the men involved. The pink leotards worn by the all-male guard was a showstopper for sure!
The Red Flames - Who? The corps was invisible all season long, and was in the basement of
DLOFDC Div 1. Some last minute changes by the corps escalated them into Div finals. Though the corps slipped from 6th at quarters, they managed to stop the freefall with a tie for 8th place with Sparkle!.
The Engineers - The corps talked the talk...but
definately didn't walk the walk. After giving YogiBoo it's first loss of the season, the corps seemed to be on cloud nine for the remainder of the season, and never came back down! Though the corps put in a solid show, with solid musicians, the lack of rehearsal time
definately did them in. Without question, the Cadets of
DLOFDC.
The Chopless Wonders - True to their committment to the Crossmen, corps director Patty Plan mimicked her DCI counterpart(XMEN) with an 11th place finish. All season long the corps struggled with the visual aspect of the show and a missing link in the drumline as well. The drumline made strides throughout the season, and show flashes of brilliance reminiscent of the 91 XMEN line.
The Mighty Crimson Knights - Rounding out the top 12 of
DLOFDC, the Knights had a solid season of second and third place finishes. Although the corps had all the right components in place, they
couldnt seem to put it together to make it cohesive enought for a championship caliber show. Perhaps the amped opera singer in the end zone was the deal breaker for them? The Boston Crusaders of
DLOFDC.
DIV 2 and 3 power rankings to come soon!
