So, how is the summer season going to work? I know some of you are wondering that. Last night, the executive committee got together (the beauty of an AIM chat room) and hammered out several key details for the season. Here are a few things to know right now: - There will be 2 divisions just like in DCI. Div 1 and Div 2. Both will use Division 1 captions from 2003 to structure their fantasy corps. However, the max point will be on different levels. The reason for this is to create more "realistic" scores associated with Div 1 and 2 in DCI. More on this later.
- The season will begin June 18th and end August 7th. The season will be in conjunction with the DCI Summer Season.
- There will be a "qualifying" show for all new corps directors and corps directors from Season 1 who did not make the top 17. The purpose for the qualifying is to determine who of the corps (new and those not making top 17) will get into the remaining spots of Div 1. All corps required to qualify will submit caption choices from the 2003 season (just like the practice season) and then a show from the 2003 season will be chosen by the Executive Committee. We will use that show to generate the fantasy scores, and then rank the scores from 1st on down. The top X amount of corps will be put into Div 1 and the rest go into Div 2. When we arrive at finals week in August, there will be a fantasy Div2 prelims and finals. The top 4 corps from Div 2 finals will go on to Div 1 quarterfinals and have a chance to pull a Magic 2002 result
Those top 4 corps will gain an automatic birth for Div 1 for the following season (Season 3) and the bottom 4 corps from Div 1 will be moved to Div 2 for the following season. Don't be upset if you don’t make Div 1 in the qualifying. It’s just a way for us to distinguish the divisions fairly.
- We will be implementing a reward system to those who do well at the first 3 of the 4 regionals. The way it looks now is that there will be 8 caption changes given automatically at the start of the season to all corps. Feel free to use some or all of the captions. There will be a deadline though as to how far in the season you can make caption changes. Those who place in the TOP 3 at the first three regionals will be given an additional caption change. So a corps can potentially have 11 caption changes to use in the season, if they place in the top 3 at the three regionals. The reason for doing a reward system is so that more realism is added to the league. It adds the potential of creating a "dynasty" ala BD or Cadets with your corps. It also encourages the corps director to really submerse themselves into the "fantasy" aspect of the league. Bottom line: Its all about having fun!
- There will be a fantasy I&E Competition during finals week, where you can submit one or several of your fantasy corps members into that competition. Come up with a member name, performance medium and performance piece and you are in! The winners will be picked at random by the Executive Committee. This just adds another element of "fantasy" to the mix.
- Since Season 2 is only a month and a half away, registration for your corps will begin this Friday, May 7th at 12pm Eastern time and end Friday, May 28th at 10pm Eastern time. I will start a new thread for you to submit your corps info as well as your caption choices. You will ALSO BE REQUIRED to EMAIL me your corps info. NO EXCEPTIONS! If you do not email it to me, you will NOT be allowed to compete. It’s that simple:) Everyone will be required to re-submit, even if you were in Season 1. If you were in Season 1 and I don’t hear from you with a new submission, I will assume you will not be competing.
- Season 1 will be required to keep their current corps names. Slight alterations to the name will be allowed, but nothing completely different. To those corps who placed in the top 17 of Season 1, you will be allowed to submit a second corps for Div 2. However, the Executive Committee will determine the location for your Div 2 corps. The reason for this is because we will need to place some corps out west to create a realistic touring schedule. The DLO community does not have a strong representation from the Western States, so we have to take matters into our own hands.
I believe that is it for now! As always, you can email me: dlocorps@netscape.net or message me on AIM: Morisseyrules99 or PM me here with questions. I will be happy to answer. If I’m not around, message one of the Executive Committee members. They will be happy to answer your questions as well. Thanks again for a great Season 1! I encourage as many of you DLO members to sign up! Some of you may think that this takes a lot of time to do. In reality, it doesn't. I would say maybe an hour a week, 2-3 at the most if you really submerse yourself in it with detailed fantasy corps info and graphic designs(i.e. YogiBoo, DC Scandals, WRR, The Brassiers, Sparkle!). So don't let that stop you. Join up! Here is to Season 2! Post any comments you want, but DO NOT POST your corps info for the summer here! I will create a thread for you to submit when the time comes.
