So, I'm thinking about buying this snare off of this one guy... As you can see, the bottom head has been taped, but he says you tape it to get a tighter sound. is this true? or do you think it needs to be replaced? I have no problem doing that but I need to know..

Can't see.

However, even if he's being dishonest, if there's nothing wrong with the drum, a bottom head is easily replaceable. If it's an otherwise good drum go for it laugh

If that's the actual offer, you're getting a steal on that drum. It is somewhat normal practice to tape the guts to the bottom head for a very tight snare sound. Not to mention, the bottom head is easily replaceable as was noted by SFZ.

Good find, you should be well advised to grab this if you want it and can afford to get it.

Grab it, the price is awesome. But looking at the logo on that head, that is a pretty dang old head and you may need to change heads even though the head isn't broken. Heads wear out after awhile and I'm guessing that one is past the end of its acceptable life.

I hope it doesn`t sound like an echo but"Get It"!!! Looks real good and the heads might even be good but you`ll have to hear it and even then just replace them and you have a nice Pearl snare.

I looks just like glue residue. That snare is a steal steal as has been echoed. A better deal than I got on mine. Usually there is no such thing as a small tears on KevlarŪ heads. Due to the tension they usually spread like cancer. Especially on snare sides. And you can pick up a new one for around 35 bucks.I would have to agree with warboy, with the wear on the Remo logo that head is ready to be changed anyway. Only way you will know is to hear it. I used to use tape til I found the Evans Stacatto disk. If you haven't checked them out its a good 8 dollar investment haven't taped my snares since and have a really tight articulate sound better than taping in my opinion.
