I am a sophomore right now and am on the tenor line. Next year I am hoping to be section leader, but even if i'm not i have had a few ideas that i want to change for next year. One of my ideas was to warm up in the lot before games because the drumline shows up early and warms up in the chior room anyway so i think playing in the lot would be a fun experience in high school because not everyone is going to go onto a college line. i don't know how many high school lines actually warm up in the lot though and what do you guys think of the idea?

I am a junior and section leader right now at my school. We have never done it before but i want to see if we can make it happen at our school too and with a new BD I figure why not try all the changes now. You would have to find the right place out of peoples way but still "in view" but I think it would be a really cool thing to do.

I'll let you know how things go for us and if we get it. Best of luck to you bro.

Here, we warmed up in front of our school's auditorium, so basically considered in the lot. It gave us a chance to listen to each other in an outside environment warming up so we wouldn't necessarily have to make that minor adjustment from band room to field. Also, in some respects it was a performance. Since it was in the lot, a lot of the people heading into the stadium from the parking lot had to pass us, and just being the drumline we turned some heads, in a good way that is.

As far as other schools go, during away games I usually see the opposing drumline, or at least hear them, warming up outside.

Hope this helped.. somewhat at least.

Avoid warming up inside the stadium, even in the corner of the track, far away from the field. I've been chewed out by a football official for this.

Warming up just outside the stadium in the lot is a good idea. Fans walking by enjoy it. It's good for the drumline's image. It also gets your mind off the game and the social environment and focuses you on having a good show. I've had students tell me that they don't play as well at football games as they do at contests, because they worry about playing in front of their peers. Step out of the stadium, warm up, and get focused on your show. When I was in high school, we got in the competition day mindset at games. Games were our dress rehearsals.

I think it s a very good idea. It gets the Line in a "performance" mind set. The Line I teach loves the attention it draws and makes them want to be great.

It is a good idea. I was thinking about doing that with the line I'm teaching this year.

thats not a bad idea. Im a junior in high school and at all the comps ive been at the drumlines haven't warmed up in the lot at all. The only time my line has warmed up in the ''lot'' is during a showcase. Where all the bands in the district show up. Warming up in the lot brings out the A game in people even though its just playing warm ups.

I think it's a great idea and you should totally go for it. It warms you up, releases any built up nervousness and tension, and gets your percussion section exposure. Our battery and front ensemble plan on warming up together in the lot this year of our state championships. Just a variety of stuff. [Green, SCV's Timing Exercise and the show.] It also helps people remember the things they need to if you do a run through just percussion before your actual performance.

my line could only was able to do "in the lot" at state finals. i loved doing it and people would come watch us warm up from all over the lot. it builds up confidence and gets rid of the nerves. at high school for games we did it outside but too far from the stadium so nobody would come down to watch

My line always does this before games, I am a sophomore tenor just like you, going to be section leader(what're the odds!?). Anyways whenever the band gets to games early(all the time) the drumline goes out and breaks out individually to chop out. Then the sections go togethor (Snare/Tenor/Bass) and rehearse and play. Then we all get togethor with the pit for an ensemble rehearsal. Then we cadence the band into the stands:P
