I love practicing tenors! I practice during the school day, when I have free time, but usually it's just on a snare pad or studying music. Because the thing is, my big huge tenor pad is a hassle to drag around.
So I had an idea. I'm very near completing the design for a new, miniature tenor pad, about 1/3 the size of a normal pad. I know this is a bad idea in terms of technique practice, but the idea of the mini pad is for working on the music, the feeling of your hands moving around the drums and so on. When I'm done designing, I can build it in woodshop class.
Let me know what you all think!

I always thought it would be a cool idea to have a full size tenor pad that could fold in half, or even in thirds. Maybe on some kind of hinge system.

Dynasty (of all companies) made one. Worked by using a very large, heavy hinge that although made the pad heavy, made the pad very easy to bring with you. Well, at least easier than a normal pad. I don't think they make them anymore though as sad as that is. Go to the hardware store, buy a hinge, cut your pad in half and bolt it on. Mike Stevens used to have something that was similar, but it could be taken apart so each drum was separate. It was called the ModQuad. If you want to see it, it has a review page on this site. Unfortunately, they stopped making those as well.

I agree with the hinge system, but with a really light wood or something
