I'm a senior in HS, and I'd very much like to play quads in a college band when I graduate. I know I play very well for my band, and I'm sure that I'm the best tenor player. The thing is, I never get time with an instructor, so I have no idea if I'm anywhere near as good as I need to be to play in a college line. Does anybody have some music I could take a look at, to make sure I'm on the right track? My email is jseitzªtlive.com, or you can post links, I'd very much appreciate it!!

PS, the main colleges I'm applying to are Temple University, West Chester University, and Millersville University, if that helps at all.
Thanks very much!

There's a lot of great information and music on this website, just look through the tenor section! Stay a while and start getting familiar with the site, comment on a few posts, kinda share the knowledge you have and stuff, and you'll gain enough rank to start downloading sheet music from here. Definitely a lot of neat stuff to be found!

Good luck!

By the way, I met Westchester's line a month or so ago, a bunch of really great guys! Hope you get in with them, or any of the other lines you wish for in your future!

Well Q,

Let's start with what Stixx said, DLO has one of, if not, the best libraries for drumline music. You are welcome to look at the tenor music section and forum for any questions you probably have.

Now just a reminder on asking for music, so let's go back and read section 4 again.

Ok, there is no law that is keeping you from seeking out-side lessons. Find a instructor that is willing to check you out and then get you up to speed. You probably only need 3 or 4 sessions to get you ready. Also Google the schools that you're interested in and see if you can find a old audition pack. Then ask the schools for a current one or for next year. These schools want you as much as you want them. This will show them that you are interested and motivated.

Good luck! Feel free to ask any question you want, just not section 4.

Email their percussion guys and tell them what your intentions are. Every college instructor I've dealt with are really good with answering emails and actually looking like they care (regardless if they do or not). I've seen some of West Chester's stuff because when I search for my school on YouTube (Western Carolina) I come across a lot of it simply because of both schools being "WCU," but West Chester is pretty good from what I've seen. Anyways, once you talk to them they'll hook you up with something to get your chops going. If you don't take anything that I just said...take this. PRACTICE WHAT THEY GIVE YOU! They gave it to you for a reason. When I graduated high school and came to Western Carolina for the drumline auditions I was in for a big surprise. I was one of the best drummers in my county and then I started playing with the big dogs and I was like the runt. Even though my audition was decent, I still knew I could've put more time in it. In high school you're surrounded by kids who may not really want to do band or are doing it just for the heck of it. These dudes up here at W. Carolina (and I'm sure any other university) don't play around and everyone is there because they LOVE drumming and they are all dang good at it.

Oh another thing, see if they have a technique packet or anything, a lot guys are picky about that and virtually every single line, high school, college, or drum corps have a different technique. I'm sure whichever university you end up going to will have a different technique then what you're use to.
