Hey Everyone,

I purchased a Pearl Snare a few weeks ago. I need to determine what carrier I need to match this drum mount. If anyone knows the proper carrier for this mount, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

M_K

First things first. You have two different types of mounts on there. I have no idea what the top one is so you will have to get info from someone else about that. The bottom is the now mostly defunct clip mount. An Example
I believe this would work, but you may be better just getting a new mount for J-bars and getting a good harness. This adapter would do the job.

top is an older (circa 2000) Randall May/pearl attachment. though I believe the carrier half come s with the attachment, not the carrier.
http://www.randallmay.com/catalogs/Randall_May_International-Pearl.pdf

The bottom is the old (like 15-20 years ago) slot type that was common on yamaha field corps, and the fist sfz run.
see this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Randall-May-Marching-Snare-Drum-Carrier-Attachment-SFZ-High-Tension-/300601976504?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUA%26otn%3D5%26pmod%3D290587708190%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D3528823980469962804

Buy any new free floating attachment and the carrier to match. take both old ones off, and put the new one on.

Also why do you want a carrier? as an individual, the only time I used a carrier was to set the height of a drum on a stand.

I plan on just putting a new J-bar mount on the drum. Also the reason Im looking for a carrier is to practice marching with the drum on my body. Getting used to crab marching and the weight difference with the drum attached to me. Im currently a wind player looking to try out for drum line next season.

that is a jbar mount.
you just need the plate the j bars insert into. that plate has two plastic rods that slide into the tube part of the attachment on top. any j bay carrier will work with that plate.

Other option remove pearl part, and buy that yamaha attachment and use the bottom one. the attachment slides into the slot, and then the carrier into the attachment

you don't need a specific carrier. you need the part the carrier sticks into.

Sorry that was my bad. Got confused on mounts. But the idea about removing the pearl piece and implementing the Yamaha mounts sounds very intriguing.

Also, should I use the current plate, would the only thing I need be the plastic rods that insert into the tube? If so, where could I buy those parts on there own? And thanks for putting up with my questions. They probably seem pointless. But you are really helping a noob out.

Oh yeah, I remember those things now. They worked a lot like the current Yamaha ones. Do they even make the plates for those anymore?

The part I suggested would still work if you got rid of both of those mounts. You can at least take the clip mount off.

I may be misunderstanding the thread, but if you have not yet purchased, a carrier, I would spend my efforts (and money) on a carrier that was either as comfortable as possible or as similar to the carriers the line you are auditioning for uses as you can purchase.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to purchase a harness to fit such an old mount, when there are way better options out there.

Pick any snare carrier, like this one Pearl CX Airframe. Most, like that one, will come with the required attachment for your drum.
