Before I chime in...I would like to hear others who have experienced teaching a corp line and a show-style line....What were the pros and cons???

One thing that I can say off the top is...the ability to read music

As someone who marched(and teaches) Corps-Style and is also teaching a Show-Style line, can say there are quite a few differences.
The ability to read is the biggest one. A lot of these kids just don't have the hands that Corps-Style kids do, and the way they interpret rhythm's can be different depending on how they learned them to begin with(the director at our feeder-middle school uses the "fruit" system which makes it difficult when I say "Play X Rhythm" and they have no clue when I'm talking about because they've heard it called something else or they count it differently. It's frustrating. It's a lot more hands-off than a Corps-Style Group, as well. Also, trying to clean technique seems to be a lot more difficult. These kids LOVE playing, though. Especially my snares. They devour music at a ridiculous rate. I basically write music just for them because they want to learn it. And it's certainly a different experience, which is what makes life interesting.
