Even past snare science, try writing something of your own. It's always nice to write something to challenge yourself as a performer, then when you accomplish the goal that you put in front of yourself BY yourself, it makes the achievement that much more gratifying.
Not only are you learning something new about how to be a better player, but you're also learning something new about how to be a better writer/arranger, too!
When I write any kind of solo or practice spree for myself, I make sure to incorporate 1 or 2 rudiments (Hybrid, or standard 40) in the music that I don't already know how to play to add to the challenge. Before I can even learn my own music, I have to teach myself that rudiment. From there, I add in changing meters/subdivisions (duple to triple, duple to fives, etc.) and just kind of add in the color from there.
Hope that helped a little.
Happy drumming!
