Yes, both are reputable dealers.
But what about Yamaha are they good? I've seen our old Yamaha drums and I didn't really like them. But hey that's just me.
In my experience, Pearl and Yamaha are at the top of the heap when it comes to quality. I'd opt for Pearl, but it's simply a personal preference.
Are shorties or indoor drums lighter then then regular ffx 14 x 12?
If you're comparing indoor/"shorty" models to the full-size 14x12 models from the same company, then yes, the smaller drums are a little bit lighter. But the indoor models from one company may still weigh a little bit more than full-size drums from other companies.
...but coming from a tenor player, suck it up. Even "heavy" snares are light.
