I'm just wondering what some of the teachers out there do for their drumline for a warmup? Do you just do static stretching or do you have a dynamic program that you do? Stuff like that. Whatever you do for the pit would be an interesting topic too.

Warming up the muscles is:
-A great way to get loose
-Prevent injuries
-Start the rehearsal on a good note
-Discussion time since they are all in one area with few distractions

I personally don't have a defined set of things I do, but I stick to the basics of ankles, calf, arms, core, and upper/lower back. All of those stretches in a circle among each other, and a nice little jog. Depending on how demanding your show or rehearsal is, a good stretch can really make the difference. Just getting limber and having your heart already in that motion keeps you alert and gives you a nice note to start the day on.

So you do the sit down in a circle and stretch thing. I'm assuming you do the jog after that? Do your kids ever complain of soreness after a practice?

I'll be teaching for the first time this season and I've been thinking about physical warm ups too. I'm not sure about jogging, but definitely stretching out the calves, ankles, wrists, etc.
