This is the cadence we use for... most everything. It's main purpose is marching onto the field for halftime and pre-game. We also play it [or Latin Lover] coming into the stadium. It is also our parade cadence. It's not hard at all. The tenor part at the end is not fully transcribed correctly, but close enough.

Obviously, it serves its purpose very well. It's very easy to keep a tempo with, while being just complex enough to where it's fun to play. For that I say nice job. The only critique I would have for this is to maybe put a solo for each section in there; which might make it a little more crowd pleasing. Other than that... pretty nice job. It's nice to see people writing playable things, rather than extremely difficult things only a computer or a dci line can play.

good job

I'm with CarrollDrummer, it's has a good groove but I'm guessing that this is only a part of a larger cadence. At different sections I would also put solos in for each of the drums in your line, something we did was once we were in the stadium we would pass in front of the other drumline in their section of stands and we would play what we called the "dis-section" and play a part from the other drumlines cadence or even their solo in front of them ( a little recon with a dig. recorder before you play the other team is in order ).

Then once in front of our stands where we were to be, we had a call and answer part. We play a part that was relatively easy for the other line to play back and do this twice, then once the other line is hooked into playing back or repeating a passage of licks, be it with only the snares or tenors or the base line. Then we would let loose with a complicated lick that was almost imposable for the other line to repeat back. But this was part of an M.O. that we had established as the personality for our line. For me just as in the parking lot warming up, a Cadence is part intimidation towards the other side. Not just something groovy to march into with.

Actually, this is it; no "long" version. In fact this is the long version, the short version just doesn't have the buzzes at the beginning.. It was originally just meant for coming onto the field. That's why we switched to Latin Lover for coming into the stadium this past year, and we just don't have anything else that could work in a parade.

Just so you know, I personally didn't write it. Our [former] instructor did at request of the band director when the school first opened. It's only 5 years old. I've been considering writing a longer version of it for parades, because we seem to play it twice then whatever parade music we have.

I understand what you are saying, if you like the cadence keep and use it as a root to a larger cadence. It seemed a bit rushed you might want to have some kind of time check pattern for every one to go by. I don't meen a snare tapping time, may be a vocal time check or something for every one to go by.

A problem I find with some high school liness are younger members not understanding the concept of time. I would work on some kind of check patterns till timing is not a problem, you are in a large line and too often listening is not taught. Listening to to center is vital to a tight section, and watching the drum major would help also.

It's ya'lls cadence I can't tell you what you want, get your section leaders together and extend it or rewrite something you guys want. There's nothing wrong with Having a couple different cadences for diferent occasions. Talk it over with your BD and instructor and tell them what you want to do, you have to play it, so own it. If you don't like it change it, just don't accept it because that's what is given to you.communication is vital and if you don't express your lines concerns then everyone thinks that everything is ok and nothing will be done to make it ok.

This is a democracy not a dictatorship, do you eat what ever a waiter brings you? No you tell him what you want. Of course the BD is the boss and you have to give your respect and listen to your drum instructor but if it don't click with your line say so. I don't meen revolt and have a bad attitude, instructors are there to help you not rule you.

Listening to center is what we are taught from day one. With a 7-5-5 line, it would be a lot of mud if we didn't, and even still it sometimes is if we don't practice a set part. In fact, on everything except for show music, we have to write our own part, and it's usually never written down on paper (or Finale or Sibelius,) but it usually turns out well, except in one or two cases.

I do not know what our new instructor will do, since all our warmups, so music, and such were written by the old instructor who quit after the first couple games because of some idiots on the snareline not taking it seriously; they were dealt with. I personally will not be on the drumline next year because I am graduating, but a problem with credits could hamper that, but that is another story, but I still would not be on the drumline. I'd come back as most likely as an assistant instructor, as some former members have done in the past. I guess my point is, I do not know what next year's line will want with this cadence.

Glad to hear you write in your PM that your line will be getting a new instructor and that you will be helping out next year. I will be coming to the DCI show your school hosts this season and I hope we can get together in the lot. I will for sure be over with the Blue Knights area catching up with Ralph H. Haven't talked with him face to face since SCV stayed at the high school I was a snare tech back in 87, emails and FaceBook just isn't the same as in person.

Are you all doing a winter program? Maybe I can get up to see your line in person, Youtube is not a great way to assess things. You are probably right about things. Also who will be the instructor for next year, I might know him or her. well good luck with your credits and if there is any material I can help you get together for helping out with you line let me know, be happy to help.

See ya in the lot!!

Ill most likely be a volunteer again, as I usually am.

As for winter programs, not this year, but some of us hope to have one next year or the year after.

Instructor is Brian DeGaetano for next year.. and I most likely butchered the spelling for his last name.
