Actually, this is it; no "long" version. In fact this is the long version, the short version just doesn't have the buzzes at the beginning.. It was originally just meant for coming onto the field. That's why we switched to Latin Lover for coming into the stadium this past year, and we just don't have anything else that could work in a parade. Just so you know, I personally didn't write it. Our [former] instructor did at request of the band director when the school first opened. It's only 5 years old. I've been considering writing a longer version of it for parades, because we seem to play it twice then whatever parade music we have. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6_i6wFPl5M Here we play it a the 2:10 mark.

I understand what you are saying, if you like the cadence keep and use it as a root to a larger cadence. It seemed a bit rushed you might want to have some kind of time check pattern for every one to go by. I don't meen a snare tapping time, may be a vocal time check or something for every one to go by.
A problem I find with some high school liness are younger members not understanding the concept of time. I would work on some kind of check patterns till timing is not a problem, you are in a large line and too often listening is not taught. Listening to to center is vital to a tight section, and watching the drum major would help also.
It's ya'lls cadence I can't tell you what you want, get your section leaders together and extend it or rewrite something you guys want. There's nothing wrong with Having a couple different cadences for diferent occasions. Talk it over with your BD and instructor and tell them what you want to do, you have to play it, so own it. If you don't like it change it, just don't accept it because that's what is given to you.communication is vital and if you don't express your lines concerns then everyone thinks that everything is ok and nothing will be done to make it ok.
This is a democracy not a dictatorship, do you eat what ever a waiter brings you? No you tell him what you want. Of course the BD is the boss and you have to give your respect and listen to your drum instructor but if it don't click with your line say so. I don't meen revolt and have a bad attitude, instructors are there to help you not rule you.

Listening to center is what we are taught from day one. With a 7-5-5 line, it would be a lot of mud if we didn't, and even still it sometimes is if we don't practice a set part. In fact, on everything except for show music, we have to write our own part, and it's usually never written down on paper (or Finale or Sibelius,) but it usually turns out well, except in one or two cases. I do not know what our new instructor will do, since all our warmups, so music, and such were written by the old instructor who quit after the first couple games because of some idiots on the snareline not taking it seriously; they were dealt with. I personally will not be on the drumline next year because I am graduating, but a problem with credits could hamper that, but that is another story, but I still would not be on the drumline. I'd come back as most likely as an assistant instructor, as some former members have done in the past. I guess my point is, I do not know what next year's line will want with this cadence.
