How did you manage to do that? It's pretty darn hard to drop a cymbal using the common "Garfield" grip.

For some of the visuals we were holding it alternative ways. Not to mention it was actually the first time in my life I have ever held crash cymbals. I don't necisarily think me being moved to a different instrument was totally because of that, because i would have learned eventually, but its a fun excuse.

it was my first year marching tenors, and in the middle of the show I twisted my ankle and fell on the 45 yard line. Yeah that sucked. then in the last act I dropped my stick.

I guess mine was way back in my high school days I marched with the Rivercity Railmen (DCI corps, class A) in Omaha, NE. I played 2nd bass then. It was 4th of July and I was marching 3 parades that day between the Railmen and my school band. While we were walking to the warm up area for one of the parades, we were all crossing the street, just walking. I was doing the 'bass drummer look' meaning turning side to side to see if anything was in front of you as you walk in an unknown area. Well, I was walking straight and looked left, then right and when I straighted up, I crashed full on into a parking meter. I stopped dead, and the rest of the people around me kept moving. It felt like a bad cartoon. I can't believe the entire drum didn't crush flat.

My Junior year I played 4th bass and we were marching onto the field, but my band director thought it would be cool to kneel down right in front of me. We started to march on and I nailed him in the back of the head. I felt so bad and everyone around me was just staring. Not a fun way to start a performance.

I threw up all over a new marimba. That was bad. I also hit the gong on the upbeat of the first measure of the opener smirk that was extremely noticeable and embarrassing

Freshman year...Our upper battery had put in a rotating visual for two measures (spin). But, the day before a festival (non-judged), we took the visual out. And I forgot. So yeah, I ended with a two measure spinning solo...

Definitely happened this year in wgi, was marching freelancers indoor at our Union City Regional and we had our prelims show. For the opener the snares have a roll feature with drill in the middle of the floor, and I missed went the opposite direction in the drill, and flark up the rest of that feature...

luckily that was the only time that happened. I went on the kick some butt in the finals show.

i forgot that the laquor on my tenor mallets gets really slippery when its humid so during the memorial day parade this year, you guessed it. my stick flies up above my head during the cadence and i missed almost a whle measure because i hit a rim in the first place. its sad, i know haha.

at the same time, some reporter was interviewing the other tenor who was falling behind by about for steps and wasn't playing. he actually talked to the reporter. and i do have to say i was embarrasd for him because after playing tenors the whole year, he still diesnt know the cadence

ok it's 1982, i'm a sophmore in high school. i travel to chattanooga from alabama to try out for my first dci gig. i show up with my TDR 15", now nobody else has their drums (first embarassment) then i audition, did very well i thought. the line director said "you have 2 min. left impress me!". i play some stupid dog paddeling snare licks, one of the line tech giggles! i'm shattered. the head dude tells me that this being my first year, i should march tenors. now its 82 and coming from a small town in alabama, not knowing this corp talk, i panic. see a lot of inner city schools used tenor snare drums. i begin to plead not to put me on a tenor! he then tells me that thats the best place for me now, that later when i get the hang of a corp line, i can work up to the snare line. inside my heart broke. he tells me to turn around and play those tenors. i slowly turn around and see a set of quads, it was like x-mas! i jump on them and re-audition. one of the line instructors stops me and asks why i have such a big smile? i explained what i thought a tenor was, they crack up. then the tenor tech said i'll take him, we have to remold this kid. i must have looked like i won the lottery.

@sirflamalot that's pretty funny.

I've looked through the posts, and I've told the stories about losing my shoe, my cymbal, and falling marching in.

Um, lets see. Ok, so all the schools in our county gets together once a year during marching season and do a county exhibition. So anyhow, at the end of the show the whole drumline brought their sticks down by their sides. And then whenever the tap off began we were supposed to bring out sticks back to the attention position.

Ok well when I brought mine back up, my right hand was pretty mallet like flew out of my hand and past the first 3 basses (I was on 4th). I don't think that many people noticed, but it was just embarrassing to me because I dropped my stick at almost literally the last possible moment to, you know? I mean the show is over, and we're just supposed to be marching off the field ,and I lose my mallet!

Ok and then this past season: I dropped a stick during like the last few measures of the drum solo, and on homecoming no less! Dropping it was bad enough, but our computer tech program tapes the show every week and then puts it on the schools website. And so of course the camera is zoomed in on the drumline, and you can clearly see that I drop a stick. I got so many comments about that the following Monday. >.< It was pretty sad.
