ok it's 1982, i'm a sophmore in high school. i travel to chattanooga from alabama to try out for my first dci gig. i show up with my TDR 15", now nobody else has their drums (first embarassment) then i audition, did very well i thought. the line director said "you have 2 min. left impress me!". i play some stupid dog paddeling snare licks, one of the line tech giggles! i'm shattered. the head dude tells me that this being my first year, i should march tenors. now its 82 and coming from a small town in alabama, not knowing this corp talk, i panic. see a lot of inner city schools used tenor snare drums. i begin to plead not to put me on a tenor! he then tells me that thats the best place for me now, that later when i get the hang of a corp line, i can work up to the snare line. inside my heart broke. he tells me to turn around and play those tenors. i slowly turn around and see a set of quads, it was like x-mas! i jump on them and re-audition. one of the line instructors stops me and asks why i have such a big smile? i explained what i thought a tenor was, they crack up. then the tenor tech said i'll take him, we have to remold this kid. i must have looked like i won the lottery.

@sirflamalot that's pretty funny.
I've looked through the posts, and I've told the stories about losing my shoe, my cymbal, and falling marching in.
Um, lets see. Ok, so all the schools in our county gets together once a year during marching season and do a county exhibition. So anyhow, at the end of the show the whole drumline brought their sticks down by their sides. And then whenever the tap off began we were supposed to bring out sticks back to the attention position.
Ok well when I brought mine back up, my right hand was pretty mallet like flew out of my hand and past the first 3 basses (I was on 4th). I don't think that many people noticed, but it was just embarrassing to me because I dropped my stick at almost literally the last possible moment to, you know? I mean the show is over, and we're just supposed to be marching off the field ,and I lose my mallet!
Ok and then this past season: I dropped a stick during like the last few measures of the drum solo, and on homecoming no less! Dropping it was bad enough, but our computer tech program tapes the show every week and then puts it on the schools website. And so of course the camera is zoomed in on the drumline, and you can clearly see that I drop a stick. I got so many comments about that the following Monday. >.< It was pretty sad.
