It was interesting how almost all places changed from prelims, but its insane how Ayala has won PSCW, and PSW!

I would wager that its related. Ayala runs a great feeder program, and that translates into success to their marching program. I'm fairly certain some people are members of both.

True, i think the Whole Chino Hills district must just put great effort into their music programs, Having 1st and 2nd in PSW be from the same city is really something.

they've been tops in concert for sometime, and are a consistent finalist in PSW. I think this is the first time the both Medaled.

Once again all three Michigan IW lines place in the top 12. Michigan is an odd state. There are no crazy good high school programs to feed from, So all of the talent must be home-grown. the groups are all less than 2 hours from Metro Detroit and There are roomates in all three lines. Its like SCV and Devs living together... during move ins.

Yeah, it is, and i dont know if its a biased opinion, but i think Northglenn should have been placed higher, but its pretty cool that they won the fan's favorite award.

On what merit? Did they play better than someone? Did they have a more demanding show at the same level? Liking a show more( which obviously people did) is not reason for a high(er) placement. Execution, and more so design and pacing earn those spots. GE is only effective if you set it up correctly. GE for the sake of GE can actually hurt you now. where as before its was nearly a pre-req. Its is the judges job to evaluate a show on about 80% technical merit. and 20% entertainment.
The winning shows are the ones that hide technicality within entertainment.

Wow I'm kinda surprised to see Center Grove so low, but I haven't really followed it at all this year.

As far as northglenn goes, they definatly didn't have the book or the marching to score well. Was it entertaining? Yes. The problem is I feel they're more talented at acting and they're less talented at drumming.

I have to say, PIW was strange this year for me. I feel that as a whole the groups had better shows than in past years but unlike other years there wasn't a standout show that I could point to and say, "wow, that was amazing". I had a problem with all the top scoring groups in some way. I couldn't get a feel for Pulse's theme. They played great but it didn't strike me as an amazing show like the gold medalists of past years. Rhythm x had great music and played it well, but the drill was disappointing in my opinion and I don't feel that "inspired" was a theme you could really run with. They tried, but didn't succeed. RCC didn't have the theme either. MCM is the only group that had an groundbreaking show design, but unfortunatly it wasn't masterfully executed on the music side of things. They've played better.

IMO: Great themes are vital to winning IW shows and it just didn't seem like any groups brought together an amazing theme, innovative show design, and tight execution.

I wish I could explain things better. I'm sick, so that could be my excuse for poor writing...
