I was 17 and marching my first show in an Independent World Class Snare Line. We had a solo in the front left corner of the floor in a half triangle that filled the corner and I was in the front.

We were playing S. Murphs into some back sticking and hi-mom stuff and my stick hit the head on the hi-mom flying off and deducting us one tenth of a point.

In 1988, I was marching on the end of the snare line for the Railmen (DCI class A). Midwest championships were in Busch stadium in St. Louis, MO that year. It was the first stadium I'd been in that had a big video board for the scoreboard. We were all kind of mesmerized by it.
During a ballad piece, we turned to the right and did a 'follow the leader' move where I was in front. Well, I found myself looking up at the board trying to see myself until the guy behind me pushed me in the back and said "Get going!".

It was quite shocking but we still won our class at that show.

My Freshmen year, we were at an away game, and the field we were on had astro turf. We all played pit for half-time due to the lack of people. Well in the opener I had a huge gong and bass solo. After the show I was pushing the gong off the field, but where the real grass met the astro turf, there was a little creves in the ground. When the front wheels of the gong got stuck in the creves, it feel over, with me on top of it. The band director had a good laugh, as did 99% of the stadium.

We were going from the warm up site to the field. I was pushing my xylophone (that was also laden down with crotales). I was about right smack dab in the middle. Just as our 2nd marimba player crossed a side walk, the Madison Scout’s pit pulled up with there instruments and waited for us to pass. I guess a little rock was too much for my xylo because it caused my xylo to break in half RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SCOUTS. To make it better, all the crotales fell making this huge metallic crashing sound as well. Guess who did extra laps the next morning. Oh yeah, the crotales were also taken out of the show soon after as well.

My junior year, at a marching band festival, somehow over half of the entire percussion forgot to pack their equiptment. Most of them bass drummers. To make things worse nobody had sticks because I forgot to bring the case with everyone's sticks inside. We ended up borrowing an entire drumline's equiptment, sticks and all.

I was drum captain.
The director was NOT happy...worst day ever.

In concert last year, i told one of the other percussionists to pack up the bass mallets so we didn't forget them. that will be the last time i tell this person to do that though becuase he didnt even take them out of the cabinate. We had to use timpani mallets for the whole clinic.

My sophomore year, I marched top bass. We were at an away game on the other side of town. Everyone told me that had marched on this field before that the field was "jinxed" and I didn't believe them because at that time because I thought that I was perfect in everything that I did and I that would never bust my butt. HAHAHA I was wrong! In our drum break we had to go from the 30 yardline to the 50 and between those yardlines was a hole that I didn't see because it was covered with grass. I hit the hole, fell over like a tree, and then looked like a helpless turtle trying to get up. And after our drum break was an impact, so I had to roll over, get up, and run to my impact spot. I think that it's really funny now, but back then I cried and got upset at myself about it.

well,
this is my first year marching and so far I've got two.

The first happened in band camp,
the 3rd bass must have been hyper that day and he announced
"DRUM RACE!!" and everybody else was too tired, but me and him started running with our bass's on (2nd and 3rd) and my bass drum bounced off of my shoulders, harness and all, and i didn't fall, but the drum went rolling between my legs and I jumped over it.
everything was fine though, but no more drum races.

2nd was when we were marching down to the stadium to practice and i didn't see it, darn you bass drum, and i tripped over a john deer gator. yeah, i did a face plant into my bass drum, and to top it off the upperclassmen snares were standing right beside me, trying to warn me of it, but i wasn't paying attention.

Before we started marching at halftime we would arc 40 to 40. There was 1 other person who was in my section and i stopped on the 40 i was be end and he was supposed to stop going. Well I stopped where I was supposed to and told him to stop but he started to stop then kept going. Later i yelled at him so much. I swear i thought he was going to cry. Even though I was right it looked like I was wrong from the stands.
