Has anyone played on one of these yet. I really like the fact that they can be used as 1 or 2 spocks rather then the HH's where you have to choose one or the other. Also the tonal sounds sound kinda cool. If anyone has used one please let me know what you think.

Thanks

I saw the new designs on the xymox website. I have one of the older pads with just the dual spocks. It is a very nice pad to play on. Has good stick response and the rims are a great feature too. Another plus is that the xymox pads already have laminates on them, unlike the Vic pads that you have to go and spend another $20 to get them.

I bought 2 of these yesterday ( Why not? It was buy 1 get 1 free)
Though it is a gift from my mother for my birthday, so I can't use them until May 17th.
Can I look forward to these? I had no idea they had rims, that's neat.
I bought the waverunner and the Tim Jackson.

you can replace the rims too. but if you practice enough you shouldn't have too. =] I'm thinking about taking advantage of this sale. I would love an ID pad and some sticks or two pads or whatever. there's a lot of options. love the graphics on the tenor pads.

Uh-oh. I noticed something.
The Tim Jackson and Waverunner models do not say (W-LAM) under the title. Does this mean the laminates did not come with them?

And, if they didn't, are they worth buying? What exactly do laminates do?

dont worry. The pad material is laminated already. You will be fine.

Definitely worth buying!

Mine came in today.
But I can't see them until my birthday... but I will be gone on my birthday. For 8 days afterwards. So now I can't even play on them until 38 days from now.

I just came back from WGI finals and played on them in the Xymox booth. compared to the quadropad I have now, I would defiantly recommend getting one. The only other tenor pad there that compares was the new Dynasty tenor pad. The only reason it does though is because it folds in half so it's only half a pain to take with you. Don't get me wrong, it's still a tenor pad but it's actually applicable to take w/ you. For playing though, I would take the Xymox over the dynasty because there is rims on the Xymox and it seemed that the hinge made the dynasty rattle when played, I'm hoping that it was just a bad display though.

I'm hoping invader comes out w/ their version soon. That'll be sweet. Right now these are the best out there.

I'm considering getting the Dynasty fold able one for portability's sake. From what I remember from playing both that and the Xymox right after each other, they aren't that much different besides the universal spock thing on the Xymox, which I don't like much anyway.

Or I'll just wait to see what Invader has to offer. If it's any bit as good as their snare pads, it'll be worth the wait.

I considered getting the Dynasty, but the Xymox deal was just too good to pass up.
Also, I don't ever go anywhere I would need a tenor pad. The only other place I play tenors is at school, and they have some. So portability isn't that big of an issue.

I had to bring my large VF pad with me to dayton, and that was a HUGE pain in the butt. I had to bring a huge duffle bag to fit it in. It would have fit in a suitcase if I had the Dynasty :P

I'm going to have to get a set of the cheapest ones. I have the quadropad right now, but my main problem is hitting rims on fast phrases and the quadro pad doesn't have rims! I saw these and I now have to save up all my money for one.

just got mine in today. got the waverunner. i like it much more than my HH, mainly cause i screwed my HH up by spreading the spocks too far apart. love the rebound and feel of them. its worth the money and by trying the other pads at wgi, i think its the best.

^^I spent one of my paychecks on the quadropad. Then I realised, the laminates never stuck, and the pad fails without them. Needless to say I spent another paycheck about 2 months later on the Xymox one, I hope it's worth it.

Can you make a video review? There is no review other than from Xymox and that might be biased.

All the tenor pads have laminates on them. You can also get replacements if necessary. They also have rim replacements so you can even change the look of the pad from Wave Runner to the Tim Jackson. And two different rim colors black and blue.

The laminates will give more stick definition.

I owned the Quadropad before I bought the Xymox pad, and I absolutely LOVE the Xymox pad! It's a lot better than Vic Firth's in every way... the rims, the tonal holes, the cuts to mount it on a stand, the look, the feel, all so great! In my opinion, it's currently the best tenor pad out there. The only downside is the high price, which isn't actually that much, since you don't have to buy laminates, but shipping adds on to it.
