So it seems that i will be the only cymbal player (who was actually interested) staying in band this coming year. And i am planning to move on to another instrument, but i want to help the cymbal line even though i wont be playing with them.
So i talked to my instructor about it, and we came to this weird conclusion.
I can help the cymbals during tryouts and practices, and make sure they are using the same technique, and all the fun stuff.I will know the music for cymbals andfor snare (the instrument im moving on to), and will have both scores on me at all times.

ANYWHOOOOOO...
For the oncoming cymbal players thinking of trying out, im thinking of holding a little clinic for them.
Covering visual appearance, technique, and just having fun with them.
Most new freshman don't like cymbals because they think its too easy or that it wont be any fun.
So im gonna teach them fun visuals and hope that its enough to make them wanna try out.And it will give me a chance to see who will have the best attitude/work ethic for the line.

So do you think that i should get more than just me to help?I will definately get the new Section leader who will be in charge of these guys in on it, and im not sure if to get people who used to play cymbals to come...
They might not have good things to say..
I just want this to be the best for the kids.
You know?

I would keep it simple; just you and the new section leader. You don't want too many cooks in the kitchen.

I would also consider getting with the new section leader before the clinic and going over what you want to teach the line. Make sure you are both on the same page. Be sure the new section leader has the same amount of "teaching time" as you so the line can confidently look to him/her when you aren't around to help.

Best of luck!!

Set goals.

When introducing someone new to cymbals, break down the technique in to various steps (I'm familiar with the 7-step technique of "A, V, Bottom, Top, A, V, Close". You may have a different technique)

Also, if you can, teach the technique with just the hands first. Get their hands used to the motion. Have fun clapping for a good technique instruction and warmup before strapping them on. Make sure you have the new people stretch too. They will get tired EASILY, so keep that in mind as you don't want to push too hard (yet ).

If you do this with the other section leader, make sure you guys are trying to achieve a goal. If you can break up a 1, 2, or 3 hour chunk of practice into smaller chunks, you'll be much better off (Ie: "15 minutes regular crash technique instruction -- no plates. 10 minutes stretching. 15 minutes technique instruction with plates. 30 minutes basic warmup playing. 30 minutes instruction other types of crashes. etc.).
