The sound is just so bad butt in my opinion.

Tenors are definitely more fun. I don't play tenors
but yeah. Another down side though, learning tenor music
would take me FOREVER. Plus, carrying 45 pounds for hours
would kill me.

Also, I guess there's en egotistical side to me that's wants to be in the center of the drumline. And snares have the ability to do tricks and visuals, and I don't think thats vital, but its definitely fun.

let's face it, everyone waits for the snare feature. there's something about seeing 8 people playing exactly the same thing in unison that is amazing. i love the crisp intensity of a clean snareline, and on the other side of that perspective it also makes my blood itch when i hear a dirty snareline

Not quite. I personally don't care if the snare line has a feature or not. If there is one then I will listen to it and then sit with my tenor friends and discuss how the feature would have been much cooler if it was played on six drums by five guys.

I showed up on the first day of band camp at age 14 and was asked randomly to play the snare drum. I've been doing it ever since
and its probably the best thing that's ever happened to me.

I played percussion in middle school band cause it was an easy grade. Then my mom made me try out for drumline cause she was in guard. She kept saying 'if you don't like it you can quit after band camp' To this day I still tell her that's the only thing she's ever been right about.

I think snare is the most streamlined way to get from you to the rhythm. Snares have a basic alphabet of rudimentals, and the amazing this is building a whole brilliant piece of music out of it. There's no split part or six differently tuned drums, it's you, a drum, and two sticks. And the purity of that is something that I think is awesome and inspiring and that's why snares are the best instrument in the band.

I play snare because I want to be like Nick Cannon.

fakedit: No. In all seriousness, I saw Drumline in like 5th Grade and wanted to play marching snare ever since. I just happened to get amazingly good at it really fast so when I got in to high school people were like "OH F*** IT'S NICK CANNON!"

I still had to play pit though...

xD

Pwn't.

I started playing snare simply by luck. Out of the three of us who were going to play snare, there could only be two, and the drum captain was gaurenteed a spot on the snareline.

It was only by chance that the other kid who was gonna play snare picked the broken drum. ;P
