Does anyone have the sheet music to Ditty? I printed it off a while back and parts of it got cut off. When I went back to the website to reprint it the site didn't work.
Well, are you talking about the Snare shopping spree? That's often called "the ditty" or it's often mistaken for "the ditty". If so, I have the 2000, '99, '94, and another version of it, I believe a before the '99 but after the '94. If you tell me I can email you if you're talking about ther snare shopping spree by bd.
I always thought of Ditty as a 60 second. I didn't really know you could march to it though!!!! Whole new thing for me....

Like Coos said, there are a bunch of websites that have Ditty on them...just search, and poof your there.
Also, the shopping spree is not just for snares. Every section has a part. The original shopping spree was written by Mike McIntosh. It was his concept and the idea has spread like crazy. It changes every year and it is written by members of the line. The versions that are available on the net are: 94...just snares, 97...full score in the BD book of drumming 99...just snares...and 2000...snares and tenors
thank you for playing and you can pick up your consolation prize at the door.
I think this is the version with the mistake. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there should be no 15/16 measure. Instead you should take out the sixteenth before the eighth to keep it in 7/8. That way it flows properly, and sounds the way they played it.

I've only ever seen the 15/16 version and it seems to match up with the '99 recording that I've played along with.
Hmmm, maybe I've just been distorting that measure unknowingly to match-up with the recording. I'll have to try and find the music and look it over again...
You know, after I go back and listen to BD's mp3 it actually sounds like a 4/4 bar instead of a 15/16 measure. There are definitely 3 shots in that measure, but if you keep the eighth note constant, you'll notice that it stays in time. That would not happen if it were a 15/16 bar.
Can someone tell me if this internet version is notated wrong in that measure, or is it really in 15/16?
I have gotten so used to playing with the midi file I found from '97. It was the one that I posted earlier, but is incorrect. : puts down his crack pipe :

This has driven me crazy, but I've come to find that it is a 15/16 measure, and the internet transcription is correct. Sorry for the confusion, I guess I can't be right 100% of the time!
I attached a midi file from the drumputer of the 15/16 version so you guys can have the right one!

well, according to the BD book of drumming...it is not a 15/16 measure. I know that for a fact, however since I dont have the book in front of me at the moment I cant give you what is written in that book...I will get it out tomorrow when my brain is awake. I think it is a 7/8 measure in the book, but again, I will have to look for sure.
AAAARGH, maybe there are two versions then, an early 7/8 version (97?), and a later version with a 15/16 (99?). The 1999 mp3's definitely have three shots in that measure, so it must be a 15/16 or rushed 4/4 bar.
This is triggering my obsessive/compulsive behavior!

I can't find my music to Ditty, but I know the measure you're referring to. The 3 shots are at the end of the measure and feel ALMOST like they should be 4-E-&. However, because of the sticking preceeding it, 4-E-& would naturally fall on L-R-L, but they've dropped a 16th before the 3 shots so it's R-L-R instead (which makes the 15/16 easy to pull-off because the R-L-R makes it FEEL like 4-E-& when it really A-4-E).
Yeah you are correct, but Ditty changes just little bit every year without changing the original intent. So both the 15/16 ar and the 7/8 bar are correct.

I recorded the audio from a BD '03 ditty recording, filtered it to "bring out" the snare freqs, and then slowed it down to 1/2 speed. This recording matches a download of the music, except the recording starts on the 2nd measure. It's been helpful for me in learning to hear the parts. Maybe it can be helpful for you.
This may be getting ridiculously monotonous, but the audio from the bakersfield parking lot video , presumably from this year, has measure nine as a 7/8 measure, where the last rim shot is not played. I'm sure of this. Here is a link to the video website. http://web.augsburg.edu/~heintzma/bakersfield/ Also check out the poor quality slowed down "snare enhanced" version I posted earlier. But if you're still not convinced (and even if you are), learn to play it BOTH ways. It's good practice. But what's neat about having both the music and the video is that you can learn to play something EXACTLY like one of the best drumlines out there (stick heights, etc...)!
Hey, anyone out there who owns the Blue Devils book of drumming, can you answer this question about The Ditty? On the 2nd measure that the tenors play its apparently suppose to be left hand stickings, yet they are on the same drums as the first bar, which is right hand. I'm incredibly confused, anyone wanna help me out?
crazyquints, I don't have my book on me right now, but when I do I'll let you know. I'm wondering if I never really caught that it was on the same drums as the first measure because I've always assumed it mirrored over. Imma have to check that out for my own benefit too
you have a right to be confused...that part is extremely wierd. I have the revised version of the book and it is still confusing. I would guess that you play what makes sense and to me that would be be be this sticking
beat 1 --(l) RR R
beat 2 --(2) (r)L (l)RL
the rest -- RLRLR(r)LL
I dont know if that is right but it makes sense. The part itself is extremely unclear about sticking for that particular phrase. There are other ways it could be done of course, but unless you are trying out for devils, I would use the way I suggested for no other reason than it makes sense. I would also suggest finding a video of it on the net somewhere and see if you can figure it out from there. I will break out mine later and see if I can help you out on that part.
