I don't think we're allowed to wear any jewelry... except medical bracelets... if you just got your ears pierced though you can cover it with a band-aid.

Technically, we're not allowed to wear any jewelry unless we just got our ears pierced, and we have to put a bandaid over that. A lot of people still get away with studs and neclaces because it usually isn't flashy enough to make our BDs notice.

We are supposed to take them out or cover them up, but I usually get away with it. I have 2 earrings in my left ear and my eyebrow pierced. Kind of hard to see from the press box, but our band director is all about "image".

Wow.

Seriously, it would be silly to think that an organization such as a marching band would be so publicly accessible that their appearance would matter.

Because there's no way the band gets noticed at football games, competitions, parades, etc...

Hardly any event that "image" would be a factor in, right?

What irritates me most of all about this post is that you are a section leader and are setting a horrible example for your peers.

solution: if you've got your ear pierced, they make translucent plastic plugs for when you have to take out the earring. Get one of those so you don't have a bandaid on your ear. That looks silly.

Or you could just get your ears pierced right as school gets out so that you will have it healed just in time for marching season and can take it out altogether. I did that a few days ago. Will heal by the time school starts.

Last year,at our school's marching band,my friend in the drumline had an earring, but had to wear or else the hole could close up. The director had to allow it.

The band I teach has always gone with the same standards as the military when in uniform. Females (and males, in our case) get one stud per ear, one bracelet/watch per wrist (though everyone usually takes those off), and the only necklaces allowed have to be tucked into a shirt.

honestly, I think that it would be REALLY dumb for a member of the drumline to wear earings to a game or competition.

scenario: 1st bass player decides to wear earings to a game. 1st bass player has to go to the bathroom right before halftime. 1st bass player almost misses marching on to the field. She throws on her drum in a hurry and snags her earing.

Do any of you think it is unacceptable to wear an elastic band on my head to keep the hair out of my face. (It would look a little like a soccer player.) I am a guy and my hair is somewhat long.
