I've never had an ear ring ripped out before (thank God). But my ears are streched anyway so I just keep plugs in. But I don't allow the kids on my line to wear anything for performances. During practice I make them take off watches and bracelets because they effect their playing, but I don't stress about necklaces or ear rings. None of them wear anything that cause any problems so I don't worry about the little things.

No jewelry. Remember, you are in a group that has to look and sound the same. Besides, some jewelry can get in the way and people can get hurt.

We aren't allowed to wear earrings or any jewelry (except medic alerts) in either indoor or marching band. That goes for everyone in both ensembles.

Girls (and guys I guess) are allowed to wear studs except when we are at competition. The only other thing allowed are the medical bracelets/necklaces, and for some odd reason livestrong bracelets.

I never realized all the restrictions other bands have on jewelry..We can wear any jewelry, watches, etc. that we desire.

Outlandish jewelry may be prohibited, and we can't wear sunglasses, hats, bandanas and all that with our uniform, unless you can't see it.

My general policy was to tell everyone to take it all out or put a spacer/plastic stud in its place.

If it was a new piercing, I didn't worry too much about it. Its high school, and theres no sense in making a kid prematurely take out a piercing (and potentially ruin it) they recently got done for only a 12-minute field performance, and another 30 minutes or so in a uniform. Corps may be a different story, but as long as its not incredibly distracting, I really don't care if someone chooses to wear a lip ring, nose ring, or whatever.

The primary reason it's not allowed for marching bands is because directors want visual uniformity, not because the jewelry affects playing.

I have an earing that I always leave in while I practice. It has a cheap, yet very reliable system of staying together... The part that goes through the ear slides into the other side... It's never come out on me and if it gets stuck on something and you actually pull on it, it comes out without damageing your ear. But anyways, I take it out for performances and comps. No one's ever told me I can't have it on, I've just always taken it out myslef.

Also, I wear a watch all the time, but I take it off anytime I play because it feels really awkward when I play.
