90s-2000's cavies lines still are still the roll champions in my book.

Funny thing about a lot of these Hannumites is many of them had more face time with Colin than Hannum...So really they are being affected by SCV and that whole approach. Living out here about 20 minutes away from UMass Amherst I see a lot of Hannumites. But honestly most of New England is about one of the two Toms(or Thoms). Its very rare to see anyone out here try something west coast. Everyone is trying to be Dartmouth or run a Hannum program.

Thom and Colin come down to UNA every once and a while and do a nice clinic with our drumline, since our instructor Iain Moyer is a UMASS guy. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something about Hannum's technique that I don't like. Having marched under Colin I guess I'm somewhat biased towards his approach, but it feels so easy. Colin and Tom Aungst really augment eachother's techniques for a pretty powerful sound. It's really cool to see the snares at Cadets playing the same strict manner, but now with a little more arm behind it.

I tend to agree with you. His lines have always put out a great sound quality though. I spent most of my life playing the same general technique so I think it's a little harder for me to adjust sometimes to something new. At least for tenors.

I However, I like east coast drumming better. I just love the sound of clean rolls, period.

So what does the west coast have then? Dirty rolls? lol

Haha, nah, not at all. East Coast has more of them, though. Mostly just Cadets, though.

lol that and BD's drum break right? hahaha

i knew what you meant though i just had to give ya a hard time

My HS tech marched Bluecoats in 03,

I saw them after that in 2004, and loved it, and their line has gotten nothing but better since then.

Glassmen too

Not to hijack my own thread but
I maintain that the BD drum break (08) was dirty on every snare add on. EVERY SINGLE attack and first left hand diddle was out.
that does not equal clean rolls. Its even on the recordings (youll have a hard time hearing it on the DVD as the hornline/audience mics are turned up for the first 8 counts of the drum break, which happens to be the add on...wonder why?)

I guarantee you haven't heard the 08 book yet. You must mean the 07 book.

i became a big phantom fan when i saw them in 2003. i'd seen them at a local show back in 1997 but i was barely in high school, and when they came out with their show that year i was pretty much blown away.
