This is a great timpani mallet made by Vic Firth. This mallet is great for your beginner or basic performer that doesn't need a broad selection of mallets. Other mallets are better fit for different styles of music, of course, but this is a great mallet for any young percussionist, or even a professional looking for a light, basic sound.
When not handled appropriately, the top of the mallet can get a little worn out, but that's common since (and happened to a friend's pair, not mine!)
