Description: Made of long-lasting Japanese white oak. Relatively short taper to an unusual oval shaped wood tip. The oval shaped tip assures consistent head contact at any angle. What makes these sticks truly unique is the tapered grip area. Creating a flare at the butt end, which is slightly larger than the shaft (.770" or 19.5mm), results in an exceptionally well-balanced stick.

Length: 16 3/4"
Diameter: 0.680"

Positive aspects of the product (pros): extraordinary balance, very articulate, quickness with volume
Cons: rebound suffers a bit

These are odd looking sticks, but there is method to the madness.

When I first played with these sticks, I noticed myself tiring more quickly on excercises I had been playing for weeks, then I picked up my Hardimon's and played -- although the Delucia's felt quicker, they were actually somewhat heavier! (oak vs. hickory, I suspect, given the Delucia's slightly smaller diameter througout most of it's length) After some adjustment, these are now my favorite sticks.

The design of these sticks moves more of their mass toward the fulcrum than a standard design:
the stick is a 1/2" shorter than most sticks -- this is because they've taken that 1/2" of length off the butt and compensated by giving that part of the stick a larger diameter, thus preserving the counterweight aspect while reducing moment of inertia (the effort required to make it rotate around the fulcrum); furthermore, the taper ends farther back from the end and gradually flares back out to the tip, moving mass from the tip-end of the stick back toward the fulcrum while maintaining a large-ish tip.

In other words, it takes less effort to make the stick change direction.

The result is a stick that is somewhat "faster" than it should be for it's size but still has the mass to play through a high tension head.

This reduced effort required also makes it much easier to play at low volumes -- I don't feel like I have to hold back quite so much.

The "fat butt" doesn't interfere with traditional grip, either -- the tapered area nestles right into the crook of your thumb and feels fine. If anything, the tapered area forces you to hold the stick in the right spot, regardless of what grip you use.

My only (small) gripe with these is that the rebound suffers a bit from their design. While they still rebound *well* they don't seem to get quite the same bounce as my other sticks. I suspect that a smaller moment = less force pushing back on your hand off of the rebound. This may be more a "feel" thing than anything some sort of objective testing would show, though.

Try them. You'll like them.
