Since the Premier Marathon was taken off the market, there's been a real void for anyone looking for a quality mylar snare head. The Powerstroke 77 does a pretty decent job of filling that void.
For a mylar head, it takes a pretty good amount of tension and doesn't stretch too easily like the Powerstroke II & III. The underlay and large clear dot do a pretty good job of eliminating ring.
Since it's a mylar head, tone is obviously darker than most contemporary tuning. But even with the darker tone, the head seems pretty articulate outdoors.
For someone who wants an older-style warm snare sound or for someone who doesn't have snare drums capable of handling today's high tension heads, the Powerstroke 77 is a good choice.

This head is very good. It is amazingly durable and sounds great. However, if you're looking for a higher tone, this isn't the head for you.
