Positive aspects of the product (pros):
|
well balanced high density wood gets great sound quality
|
|
Cons:
|
little on the heavy side, harder to control at high dynamic levels
|

I tried a pair of these STH's once, and they really sucked. Then, when I was in MD, I bought another pair, just because that was the only thing they had in stock, and they were great!
Aside from the inconsistency which I attribute to the good ol' Firth manufacturing process, these are very well-designed sticks. They produce a very "compact" stroke, and sound great at low dynamic levels. The oddly shaped bead actually reminds me a little bit of a tenor stick or mallet, and for those people who are committed to great sound quality at every dynamic level, these sticks will help you do it.
They have kind of a steep taper, which I think makes rim-shots sound a little crisper, and are about the same length as a pair of MS-1's. They are not the greatest for playing really fast, choppy passages, but if you stick to the basics, you can't beat the sound quality (with a stick!)
A well-balanced pair will almost sing in your hands because they have great resonance and rebound, but a bad pair will feel like you're playing with driftwood...
Hmmm kind of a toss-up I guess.

These sticks are great. The best sticks I've ever played. When it comes to sticks, it's really a matter of what the person prefers. But these are small enough to work great with starters and/or small hands. The junior high my school works with uses these because they are great for younger students. My favorite aspect of these is that the tip is a round shape so you can play these at almost any angle and get the same sound. They are great for a big drumline that has a smaller band because the sound doesn't have a BOOM unless you're doing rim-shots. Our Winter line is using these this year for both snares and tenors(on certain songs). Which brings me to my final point. If you're like me and you play tenors AND snare, these sticks are perfect for you, you can go straight from snare to tenors no problem. You can do it with any sticks but these just work on both great. Final thoughts, it's a great stick with great size and awesome sound. I'd recommend ANYDAY.

None I can think of

Great stick, I'd recommend this stick to anyone for indoor or outdoor really. I think it's a good stick for both types. I use them all the time and am considering seeing if we can use them on the field next year.

Nice feel, light, good sound and I like the color for some reason
|
|
Cons:
|
Hard to control at first.

I bought 2 pairs of these at www.music123.com
They work nice, it was a bit difficult to go from DeLucias to these, but I got the hang of it after a few warm ups. Nice and light but with a good sound. They seem to be durable.
Used by U of Michigan.

Cons:

Balance could be better

This is a great stick. A bit heavier towards the bead, so you can get a good sound with minimal effort; great for low volume. This stick is a little on the short side for my liking, or at least in outdoor use, but I would definitely use these sticks for indoor line if I marched indoor. I like the Gray paint on the newer versions; looks great if you tape the shoulder and leave the butt untaped.

This is by far the best snare stick I've played with, with the exception of our percussion instructors hand-made sticks. The rebound is effortless; the sticks want to do all the work. The small beads give us focused sound. The lacquer on the stick is a lot different than the Scott Johnson sticks... It isn't slippery when dry and sticky when sweaty, it provides a nice grip, and it's very pleasing on the eye. They're durable; my line normally goes through 2 or 3 sets of sticks per year, and only 1 of our snare is on his second pair. Good stuff, definitely recommend them to anyone.
