Description: By Edward Freytag

The definitive snare drum solo-method book. Includes the 26 American Standard Rudiments, the Percussive Arts Society Rudiments, an extensive list of Drum Corps Hybrid Rudiments and 25 rudimental contest solos.

A must for anyone that's serious about playing the snare drum.

Comments about "The Rudimental Cookbook"

"The Rudimental Cookbook is a tremendous help to all drummers, from beginning to advanced. I highly recommend this book to any serious rudimental drummer on any level!"
Gregg Bissonette

"This book is as complete a text as I've seen in awhile and is a must for every rudimental library."
Ward Durrett

"Terrific book!! It applies contemporary rudimental techniques to percussion education and performance."
Dr. Ben Miller

"Ed Freytag's Rudimental Cookbook has already become the standard against which all all rudimental snare drum books will be measured."
Dennis DeLucia

"According to Webster's Dictionary, a rudiment is the first principle of any art or science. For the Art of Drumming, these are the tap, diddle and flam. The Standard 26, P.A.S. and Contemporary Hybrid Rudiments presented are the application of these principles. The Rudimental Cookbook includes all these in one book along with a fine collection of solos. The solo material for Easy and Medium levels is very refreshing and reading the Advanced "Cheese" solos will bring a smile to your face!"
Dr. Bob Schietroma

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Builds a good rudimental foundation
Cons: None

The Rudimental Cookbook is a very decent book for those who are still building their rudimental knowledge and learning the ropes.

The book starts with a general overview of Edward Freytag's background and goals for the book. It has a relatively extensive list of the original 26 rudiments, those added by PAS, and a list of 43 hybrids including cheeses, dachudas, and Shirley Murphys. Following that, Mr. Freytag has 8 basic exercises and descriptions of what each exercise is intended to work on.

The second half of the book is a collection of solos that get increasingly harder as you move towards the final solo called "And the Kitchen Sink" which basically contains everything previously covered in the book.

This book is great for the beginning and intermediate drummer. It really works the basics for those who need them. While the last few solos will keep the advanced player busy for a while, they would probably be bored though most of the rest of it.

When I am traveling, this book is always in my luggage. Definitely recommended.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Chopbuilding Exercises.
Cons: Needs more hyrbrid rudiments.

So far I am very impressed with this book. I purchased this book to increase my chops and rudimental knowledge. The Rudimental Cookbook has 8 basic exercises to expand your rudimental technique and to prepare you for the advanced solos in the book. The last two solos in the book are EXTREMELY ADVANCED and require alot of endurance and chops to play. The only con I had for this book was the amount of hybrids it contains. I thought Mr Edward Freytag could have put more in this book but he has a 2nd addition called JUST DESSERTS. I will probably buy that when in finish the cookbook.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): A Good book for all levels of solo snare drumming
Cons:

I git this book from my band director for free and it has to be the BEST book that I have seen for solo snare drumming. I spend HOURS and HOURS at a time going over the different solos again and again. I'm not quite up to the advanced levels yet but I like being able to stay at the medium levels and still have fun. I'm definitely glad that my band director had this one.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): This will keep you busy for awhile
Cons: Flimsy cover, soon you will have no cover. CD doesn't repeat

This is the probably one of the greatest books availble for snare drum. It has every single rudiment and hybrid rudiment you could ever want to learn, except book reports. It has all different solos, even one that snare from Star of Indiana played in I & E finals and got 7th place with.
This can come with a cd which I recommend to buy, Matt Savage does an awesome job playing the solos, but often doesnt take repeats unless they have different endings.
Buy this book!
