Description: Heavy Hitter Slimpad (HHPSL)

The Heavy Hitter Slimpad features a "slim" 1/8" gum rubber pad on a 12" sturdy wooden base. The extra thin 1/8" gum rubber pad gives the player a more accurate feel of a high tensioned marching snare. It's the perfect size and weight to throw in a backpack for the drummer on the go.

14 mil mylar laminates for the HH Slimpad are also available, giving the player maximum articulation and a more accurate feel of a Kevlar-headed drum.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): feel, weight
Cons: durability, volume, color

This is a great practice pad. The slim gum rubber combined with the laminate provides a surface that feels very much like a kevlar head. I have not played the pad much without a laminate. However, with the laminate, the feel is somewhere between the gum rubber and neoprene of a Real Feel pad. I often prefer this pad over my Real Feel. There is less bounce than the gum rubber, but more than the neoprene. I feel that this better mimics an actual kevlar head. Furthermore, articulations can be heard better than the gum rubber of the Real Feel. Basically, this pad combines the feelings and sounds of the gum rubber and neoprene of a Real Feel so that you get maximum articulation while retaining the rebound which you experience when playing an actual drum.

This pad is much lighter than a Real Feel. This may not be an issue to some, but I am personally more likely to take this one on a long trip than the heavier Real Feel.

I am disappointed that the bottom "non skid" rubber appears to only be glued onto the wooden base with a glue gun. This isn't a major issue because if it comes off, I can always just glue it back on.

This pad tends to be much louder than the gum rubber and about equal to the neoprene of a Real Feel. This is only a problem when I want to practice while others are around or asleep. For me, being able to hear the strokes better outweighs the louder volume. However, I have used the "non skid" bottom late at night when I need a quieter surface. It feels like playing on a mouse pad.

One thing that I really did not like is that the pad only comes in purple, which happens to be a color I hate. The good thing is that it is darker and not so bright. However, if Vic Firth offered it in multiple colors or maybe just black or grey, then it might be a little more exciting. This is more of a personal issue, so I did not consider it when rating the pad on the 1 to 10 scale.

Overall, this is a great practice pad, and I would recommend it to anyone.

*EDIT*
I originally stated that this pad was "much lighter" than the Real Feel. After further inspection, I do not see it this way. I think the Vic Firth is lighter, but not as much as I originally thought. I didn't want my statement to be misleading.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): round, great feel, purple!
Cons:

I had a vic firth heavyhitter slimpad from the first batch. I guess that from what I was told from the guys at HHP that the first run had a problem with the adhesive they used to make them and that it would be fixed. AND IT IS!!!!! I was able to return my still fairly new pad that had problems with the back side coming off (looked as another person put it as if they used a glue gun on it) BUT THE NEW ONE IS THERE TO STAY reconfirming my belief that THIS IS THE BEST PAD ON THE MARKET!!!

The feel of the pad is that of a kevlar drum, it has great articulation, and with the laminate on it you can hear everything all the way down to the absolute softest buzz rolls (I mean the quietest you can play!)

I now own several of the Heavyhitter series and love each and everyone of them.

They have been backordered for a while due to the overwhelming response (what I was told from info@vicfirth.com) but the wait is much worth it. I just cant wait to see what the bass pad is like!

Thank you Vic and to HeavyHitterPads for the great products!

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Realistic feel, portable, purple!
Cons: price, noisy

Because the only pad I had in my house was an old remo one I had bought 7 years ago, I decided to get a new snare pad. This one is really very different from every other pad and I enjoyed it a lot more. First off (with the laminate) the playing surface is harder than the "squishy" feel of a real feel and more accurate of that kevlar feel we know and love. When practicing rebound strokes you can really go from your snare to this pad and feel very little difference which is why I enjoy it so much. The only problem with it is noisier than the other pads but I think it's a small price to pay for accurate feel. Highly recommended.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Feel, Rebound, Realisticality
Cons: A little on the loud side

I got mine today and it's the best pad I've ever played on. It gives great rebound and feels just like a Kevlar head. Just about perfect for the marching percussionist. I'm supposed to get my laminate in a couple of weeks, which will make it even better.

The only drawback is the noise that it makes. It's louder than most pads, but that's not too bad considering all of the positive aspects of it.

I highly recommend the Slimpad for anyone looking to improve their snare chops.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Excellent feel, great quality
Cons: Loud!

This is an excellent drumpad, especially with the laminate. It gives a great marching snare feel. It is perfect for the musician who wants to practice marching snare without going out and buying one.

Would recommend to anyone. However, keep in mind that it is loud, especially with the laminate.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Realistic Feel
Cons: A little loud

I purchased my original Heavy Hitter Slimpad from Columbus Percussion just before Bill Bachman and his partner sold out to Vic Firth. Having only played on mylar heads in my previous marching percussion life, I used this pad to get use to the kevlar feel of modern drum heads. This pad makes the transition from pad to drum a seamless process.

My fellow drumline members at Gulf Coast Sound all bought Real Feel pads but wish they had known about Heavy Hitter's before they spent the money. I highly recommend this pad.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Realistic, Great Articulation, Round, Perfect Sized
Cons: Noisy

This is an awseome practice pad. It has ultimate feel and percise articulation. The laminate makes it only that much better and more realistic. This is a pad you should defentially try.

If own a marching snare drum and you like to march around your house or where ever you may be, but your neighbors, or people at your house can't stand the noise, this works really well if you just throw it on top of your drum.

This isn't the pad you would want to play during class or while somebody is sleeping that is for sure. It is a little noisy, but it feels just like kevlar but with a fraction of the noise.

I would defentially recomend these. I don't think they are on backorder anymore, I got my from Steve Wiess and it arrived within a week. So defentially replace your old pad and check this out. The laminate is a good spend if you have an extra 9 dollars.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Realistic Feel, size, weight, Chicks dig the Purple and Yellow
Cons: Volume, paint chipping

After having a regular thick gum rubber pad and always suffering from pad hands, I invested in one of these bad boys. This, along with the laminate, makes a pad that has the exact feel of high-tensioned fiber head. Pad hands were immediatly a thing of the past, and the ladies were diggin my super cool-looking practice pad.

Of course, everything has some flaw or another, and this thing is really loud. All non-drummers are driven insane by the loud volume, and practicing on this at night is not possible without waking someone up.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Has a great feel
Cons: loud!

I have used this pad for about 7 monthes now, and like many, the only complaint i have about it is the loudness of it. It has a loud volume to bgein with, but if you slap on a laminate, it makes the sound much more articulate and what my mom calls "annoying" But this pad has a great feel. I like it that i have gotten rid of pad hands with this pad. Ironic.

If you live alone and don't have anyone to bother with the sound, then this is a pad for you. But if you're like me, practicing with this pad at 10pm is not easy. I would say that I use this pad during the day, and a more silent one at night.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Very realistic feel, doesn't skid, fairly durable
Cons: Excessively loud, laminates sold seperately

As the thousands of fans, numerous recommendations, and Bill Bachman and Chris Romanowski say, this is an excellent pad!!! It's definitely as realistic as you've heard; realistic enough to nearly-eliminate 'pad hands'. The non-skid bottom on the pad eliminates the fear of practicing on a lot of surfaces (your mom's new kitchen table). The laminates also add quite a bit to the overall feel of the pad, and they are completely replaceable, just in case you have destructive siblings. ^_^

This is a very high quality pad for its price, and comes with a few minor inconvieniences. For one thing, it's loud. Really loud. I don't recommend drumming in public or in dorm rooms with this one.

The laminates, although they really add to the overall performance of the pad, are sold seperately, and can be a pain for those strapped for cash.

For marching snare drummers striving to improve, but do not have the convienience of practicing on an actual snare drum, this is definitely the practice pad for you!

Positive aspects of the product (pros): great rebound, realistic feel, interesting color
Cons: loud, not quite as durable as I would like

This is a very good pad. It has a good, realistic feel, and a good rebound. Nice weight to it, not as heavy as some pads I've seen.

Now for the downsides...
This pad is extremely noisy! And with a laminate the noise is nearly doubled. The "rims" of the pad tend to chip and wear rather quickly. If noise is an issue get a Real-Feel, or a Stockpad which I also highly recommend.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): love the feel
Cons: it is kinda loud, but that's okay

If you want the feel, you can't get any closer than the real thing. I love this pad, it's so awesome. It does pose a problem at night when people are asleep, but if that's not a problem for you, then this is what you want.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Like a real drum
Cons: A times excessive noise

This is the pad that best resembles a marching snare out there. It has the perfect rebound and the right feel. My only complaint is that the noise can get a bit loud and it can annoy others. But that all is resolved with a closed door. A must for every marching snare player

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Realistic feel, available laminate
Cons: Heavier implements don't work well

This is an excellent pad for anyone working to improve their chops. The clarity of each note is great, and the pad still maintains a great rebound. The only drawback that I've noticed with this pad is that with implements with large heads [Vegas, etc] cut through [not literally] the rubber and don't get quite the same rebound.

Overall, a great pad. Works best with actual snare sticks.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): great feel, not extremely loud, from Vic Firth
Cons: purple, heavy

Aboslutly the best practice pad I'VE ever owned. Also, it is the second quietest. Has a great feel between a concert snare and a marching kevlar snare. It is just heavy. When i take it school, it is like adding another entire textbook to my backpack. Also, it would look better in black. Also it does't come with the laminents.
