Description:

The new Scott Johnson "Vega" Multi-Tenor Stick was designed through the combined efforts of two staff members of the 11 time DCI World Champion Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps -- Scott Johnson, Percussion Caption Head/Arranger and Sean Vega, tenor instructor. As a member of the Blue Devils, Sean also won the 1995 DCI Tenor Individual Championship.
This stick was designed for the tenor player who is looking for the feel of a traditional drumstick with plenty of projection. As Sean explains, "When I marched, I preferred to use sticks instead of mallets. I liked the feel of sticks better, and there was a quicker head response with a more articulate sound. However with standard sticks, often there was a projection problem. The new "Vega" Tenor Stick goes a long way in solving that projection problem. The feel is great, and the weight and unique shape of the nylon bead pull more sound and tone from the drum."
"The feel of hickory versus metal is great," says Scott Johnson. "The quick response of the nylon bead allows you to play contemporary tenor music with much less effort. The size of the bead also allows the player to get a rim shot on a drum that has a fairly low rim to head relationship. They also feel great on a practice pad!"

Not only is Sean Vega one of my idols :D but I love the stick feel along with the projection of an acrylic cookie. Good balance and works great on drum pads also.

Once they got rid of the black screw on the head the projection increased like crazy. My tenor lines swear by these sticks. The lighter weight also lends itself better to the high school tenor players then the mallets do.

i love these sticks, their only drawback is that they're made of wood. a lot of my music involves rimshots and skanks and such and although taping adds a little, they don't last nearly as long as aluminum shafted sticks. they have a great feel, though, and they have a good projection tone.

i love these sticks. the projection is awesome. the only downside is that they break after a while unless you tape them and i prefer not to tape tenor mallets. i would definitely recommend buying a pair of these.

These sticks are awesome. I reccomend them for anyone who plays Tenors. They're nice and light, and give a little less rebound than what most newer drummers are used to, causing you to work harder for it (Thus building up strength and chops).

I finally got a pair of these, and WOW. I love the wieght on these sticks. They're not heavy, and they're not light. The beads on these sticks sounded amazing.
The only things I can think of is the paint. Well that doesn't really matter because it's gonna end up being taped anyways. The stick is a little long for most people, but I like it.

i seriously dislike this stick.
i find it way too long and that it has a very weird response.
well, actually my beef w/ it isn't so much it's length, but how it feels.
to me, it feels very awkward to use.
so, that's why i don't like it

This is an excellent tenor stick, way better than the Hardimon stick. It has a very nice rebound, and gets nice sound out of the drums. My only problem with this stick is that it's a little long for my tastes. Sometimes my wrist clips the butt of the stick on crosses and scrapes. If the length turns out to be too much of an issue, I would suggest the TS-1 by IP, great stick.

I prefer sticks to mallets so these are an obvious choice, they're also great for indoor.
They get a good sound out of the drums and theyre also cheaper than mallets. They just don't project as much as mallets

Slippery Painted Finish

The size, weight, balance, and rebound are absolutely perfect. The length is on the long side, but it works well if you're using Dynasty drums or other carriers that position your drums far from the body.
I'd give them a 10 if it wasn't for the painted finish that gets ridiculously slippery when your hands get wet or sweaty. I'd recommend taping these end-to-end or lightly sanding the stick where you grip it to scuff the finish.

From the moment I got these sticks to the moment they broke I was in love with them. they lasted me about two months which is quite a few practices and football games. good rebound though they are not aluminum, I still love them.

We went from Ralphie Tenor sticks and what a difference. The kids love the speed and "pop" from the nylon heads. Out front, the tone is more crisp and clear.
