This metronome rocks. It's very versatile in it's functions.
Tempos from 35-250 bpm, Rhythms of quarters, off beat eigth notes, two eigth notes, 8th note triplets, swing triplets (triplets with inner 8th note removed), and sixteenth notes.
Also very helpful , it has a full octave of tuning references, excellent for the multi-faceted percussionist who plays timpini or other tunable instruments.
Two other helpful features are the stopwatch and timer. The timer can be set anywhere from 1-60 minutes. Very useful for committing yourself to a full hour of practice, or use it just like any other timer. Use it as a cooking timer, or even an alarm clock if you feel like taking a little nap. The stopwatch is great accessory as well. Its max duration is 10 hours and can be used for timing length of practice or songs you mnay be playing.
The only reason why I give a 9 to this product, and not a 10 is because it has no volume control, outside of silent click (where only the lights give the beat). If they were to make the DB-12 a little louder, and give it volume control, the product would already be better.
One other slight gripe, not a huge one, is that they do offer mix meter, but only under a quarter note based beat. It'd be nice to have a student-level metronome available that could play 7/8 or variations of 8th note based signatures.
These two "cons" arent really anything that adds up to make it a bad product though. They are simply well, greedy ideas to make a good product even better.
I 110% reccommend this metronome to anyone. If you didnt practice with a metronome before, after you get this metronome, you will.

This is an excellent metronome choice for high school students. It's affordable, yet has all the features needed for mid to high-level student musicians.
Some positive features:
- The tap feature! The met contains a tap feature so you can easily find the tempo of any song. It also makes setting the tempo easier, as you don't have to scroll through 200 numbers to find the tempo you're looking for.
- It's resiliant. The met has a hard plastic outer shell and can withstand a fair amount of dropping and rough handling. This is not to say one shouldn't be careful with the met, but it's good for occasions like band camp where there's a good likelihood that it may accidently get dropped on the pavement a few times.
- It's compact. It's small enough to be easily carried, but the buttons and screen are large enough to make the met easy to use.
- It comes with a landyard-type string that can be tied through the pen-hole. I like to wear the met around my neck when I'm using it so it's easier to keep track of.
- It's blue. This may seem inconsequential, but can actually be quite helpful when youre digging around in a backpack or stick bag looking for it.
- The obvious. It has a wide variety of tempos and beat combinations, as well as a tuner which is great for timpani players or percussionists who also play wind or string instruments.
A few negatives:
- No volume control. As Kevin said, it would be nice if the met was a little louder, or even better, had a sliding volume control so the best volume for each induvidual could be chosen.
- It takes a little bit of effort to figure out how to use the met, but reading the directions once or twice should take care of that.
- If I could add anything to the met, I'd add: a clock to go along with the timer and stopwatch, and a backlight for the display, which would be helpful for evening marching band and drum corps rehearsals.
I really believe this is the best met out there for the price. Dr. Beat has a great name in mets, and this one really lives up to the reputation. I've had mine for several years and haven't had any problems with it. In fact, people ask to borrow it all the time!

This thing is awesome. In addition to being blue, you can tap off your own tempo and test your ability to estimate BPM. Theres both a timer, a stopwatch, and it even provides pitches as a tuner. Unfortunately, though tempo can be set at exact BPM rather than increments like other metronomes, this can be a slow and somewhat of a hassle. You must either tap off tempo or click the button 100 times to change tempos by a large amount.
Also, its a bit pricey compared to other metronomes, though I managed to find a cheap deal.
I think it would have been cool to add a watch to this also, if the battery life would not be too adversely lowered.
