Good balance at both ends, nice projection, good tone with mallet head

A little too hefty, possibility of butt splitting (screw), shaft splitting could make playing with mallet head uncomfortable

Very good balance. When I first bought the stick and had it shipped to my house, I was expecting a Ralphie snare stick. However, the tenor stick was both a good and bad surprise. The added heft is both a gift and a curse; the stick seems to 'shout' as opposed to a lighter stick might 'sing.' Excellent projection. The hard mallet head gives a softer, fatter sound than the stick tip but still articulates well. The only complaint I really have about it is that with extended play, the shoulder could split and complicate playing with the mallet head. I went back and wrapped the shoulder first with a layer of black electrical tape, then a double layer of 1" white decorating tape (same as electrical but smoother and a little thicker). It's very comfortable now ^^
