Dynasty Marching "Shorty" Snare Drum
The NEW P01-DFS14 14” x 10” marching snare drum called “Shorty” is the new drum on the market for Indoor Percussion for 2004 and weighs 18 pounds. The Shorty has a hard rock maple shell, endurite tension casings, 6mm thread tension rods and comes in a regular snare version or the double snare version. Dynasty USA Marching Snare Drums are available in red, white, black and blue. Standard hardware colors are silver powder coating with black powder coating and chrome finish as custom hardware finishes

The hardware on this drum is exactly the same as Dynasty's 14x12 DFX model. The only difference is that the shell for the DFS "Shorty" is two inches shallower.
Build quality for Dynasty drums seems a bit lower than Pearl or Yamaha. It's not too difficult to find casting flaws on just about any Dynasty rim, for example, while I've never seen one on Pearl or Yamaha gear. Tension rods have a tendency to rust if you even think about playing in the rain. Snare strainer hardware isn't as durable as Yamaha or Pearl. At 18 pounds, the Shorty is more than a full pound heavier than Pearl & Yamaha's full-size 14x12 drums.
But with all the negatives out of the way, it's a decent sounding drum and can be found for prices lower than Pearl or Yamaha. While the construction on it may not be quite as refined as Pearl & Yamaha, it does seem to be built to last.
I haven't been able to discern much of a sound difference between the Shorty and regular 14x12 Dynasty DFX snares.
Not quite as refined as the "other guys", but good bang for the buck. Good drum, good price, good customer service.
