Drumline Parking Lot-Vol III-2003
2003 SPINCYCLE
The Cavaliers tradition for outstanding, award winning drumlines has been achieved through the combined efforts of the percussion arrangers, the instructional staff and the drumline members.
Creatively challenging arrangements, a demand for excellence and the tireless efforts from all to perfect and perform each year’s program provides a wealth of material for use in the creation of the Drumline Parking Lot Series.
Whether it be pre-show warmups in the parking lot, intensive field rehearsals during finals week, or up close excerpts from the summer’s competitions, the Parking Lot Series provides an opportunity to experience, first hand, what it's like to be a part of The Cavaliers Drumline.
Features
Two Programs from the 2003 Season:
Warmups: This is an up close view of the tried and true pre-show parking lot preparations.
Field Tracking: This track takes you onto the field and puts you in the middle of the action as the guys work their show in rehearsals. This field footage shows the drumline in sectionals, during ensemble rehearsals with the full corps and from the sidelines during shows. Step up close, hear the music and experience the motion of Spincycle.
Bonus Materials:
Re-edited and re-mastered expressly for inclusion in this DVD, Cavalier Promotions, Inc. is pleased to include:
Parking Lot Video Vol. I – 2001 Four Corners

What a difference a year can make!
This installment of the Parking Lot series met my expectations in terms of content and variety, apposed to the 2 previous versions, which lacked in a great deal of substance.
The opening track is "Warmups", where the line plays through basic stuff like 8s, Stick Control, Dublin, Bucks, Mojo, then steps it up with Flowus. Music from Spin Cycle follows the warmups. An interesting side note, is it took me about 2 months to realize that in the first warmup there are only 4 bass drums.
Rough Cuts is the next section, which contains a great deal of miscellaneous stuff. Flowus is featured again, as well as a few more warm up sites (same format as above), even Iowa makes an appearance. The final segment entitled "Warm-Up #4" is from Finals Week.
Field Tracking is a new feature, and a pretty good one at that. You follow the drumline around the field through 2 run throughs of the show. The 3rd run through is with the full corps, utilizing shots from both rehearsal and competition.
Re-edited are both the 2001 and 2002 versions as well. One major problem I found with the 2002 version is when it cuts to the show music in the first warmup, the picture becomes noticably hazy, and the audio doesn't quite match up.
I recommend this product to anyone who wants a closer look at the Cavalier Drumline, whether it be to examine style and technique, or to just play along.

hazy footage in 2002 show music footage

This is definitely worth buying. It has great angles to watch a variety of warmups at different tempos and dynamics, as well as shows several run-throughs of the show music. There are many great close up shots of drumming. I really like the third run through of "spin cycle" because it incorporates shots of practice, run-throughs, and full corps performances. Another great part is when they show the pit exercises. I was amazed by their exercises and abilities. To show this, there is an overall camera angle and a picture in the picture showing one player up close. Some of the 2002 footage is of a lesser quality, but it is still usable. This is a great buy for drum corps fans.
