Ludwig USA Free Floater Marching Snare Drum
Here, at last, is a marching snare drum that's lightweight, durable and sounds great at high-torque levels.
The Ludwig Ultimate Suspended Action (USA) is a masterpiece of design. The unique three-ply suspended shell is a resonating chamber, that free floats from top to bottom, for an articulate, full-bodied sound.
Your choice of black or white finished hardware constructed of magnesium, makes the USA snare weigh only 15 pounds, lighter than any 12" x 14" drum on the market.
The LF-F024-D) USA snare is standard with the keystone snare strainer and snare guards.
Contact your Ludwig dealer for more information on the remarkable new Ultimate Suspended Action snare drum. It's completely Manufactured in the USA.

Cons:

Terrible sound, cheap materials
|
|
I saw the new Ludwig products at DCI finals. I was not impressed. The materials look cheap. The sound quality was very poor. The drum had a lot of overtones too it which made it sound sloppy. They didn't even tune any of the drums they had there.

Couldn't find any

These are the very same drums in use by the 2005 Southwind DCI Corps. With a Div. 1 Corps using them, I'd say that they have made great improvements over earlier models.
With that said, I went to Southwind Audition Camp. These were the drums that they provided for us to use. In the couple of hours I had to play with these, I grew quite fond of them. With a Cybermax on top and a Falams Snare-Side these drums get an awesome explosive, SNAPPY sound.
IMO, Ludwig has redeemed themselves with this drum. I give it 9, because with more time, I may have been able to find some problem, but I didn't find any while at camp.

Good sound when tuned correctly

Cons:

No glaring flaws

A decent drum, for the price I paid. My High School uses them as our performance drums, and I've never really encountered a problem with them.
Not the best marching drum around, but a solid pick for a school or individual that may not be high on expendable cash.
Sounds best when using Kevlar heads (Either Remo Black Max or White Max work well.)
If you don't have the money to buy a Yamaha, Ludwig works as a decent substitute.
