Description: New Mike Stevens Tenor Stick From Pro-Mark
11.15.04 11:28 AM

Pro-Mark Corporation, the world’s largest manufacturer dedicated exclusively to the design, production, and distribution of drumsticks, mallets, and percussion accessories has added a new tenor drum stick model to its already-impressive line of marching and educational products.
Designed by respected educator, Mike Stevens, this new tenor stick (model # TS7) is made of premium quality American hickory. It is 16” (406mm) long and .710” (18mm) in diameter. The small molded nylon “cookie” head features a unique design that eliminates the need for a screw to hold it in place.

The TS7 produces an extremely articulate sound, and provides a fast, controllable rebound for passages that require additional speed.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Stick still feels great on a pad, and still has wonderful weight on the drums.
Cons:

These are the best quad sticks on the market right now. They feel great on any surface and project better than any other quad stick I have tried.
They are a wonderful addition to the world of quad drumming.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): good sound, feel, weight
Cons: none

I recently bought the Mike Stevens MODQUAD tenor pad (i love it and totally recomend it) and decided to try his sticks as well. I really enjoyed them, they have a good weight and i like the head shape and the sound it creates as well. its an overall good stick.

Positive aspects of the product (pros):
Cons:

This is Pro-Mark's best tenor stick or mallet, but unfortunately that's not saying much.

The Stevens Stick is well-balanced and does sound decent, but it's very "beefy" compared to most other types of tenor stick. Basically, it feels like a hefty marching snare stick. If you're used to slimmer tenor implements like mallets or Vegas, the Stevens Stick might feel like you're playing with a billy club in each hand.

The natural finish on the stick is nice, especially compared to the painted or lacquered finish found on a lot of sticks nowadays. The bare wood is easy to grip with wet or sweaty hands, even in heavy rain.

I've seen occasional problems with the tips of these sticks coming loose. It's not an everyday occurrence, though.
