The Santa Clara Vanguard 2004 Drumline DVD

Winners of the 2004 Fred Sanford High Percussion Award!

Description:
The Santa Clara Vanguard is pleased to showcase our percussion section once again with the 2004 Drumline DVD. Over the years the Santa Clara Vanguard drumline has continually reinvented itself. This year, under the direction of Murray Gusseck, the Santa Clara Vanguard percussion staff (James Ancona, Kent Cater, Robert Chavira, Glen Crosby, Ralph Hardimon, Hunter McRae, Armando Olivares, Jim Ragsdale, Chris Retschulte, Dustin Schletzer and Jonathan Steele) carry forward this tradition.

This DVD will give you a glimpse of the 2004 drumline mid-season. You will get the chance to see the SCV percussion ensemble in true form - sweating under the sun - playing the core exercises of their extremely diverse warm-up program, as well as music from their 2004 show "Attraction: The Music of Scheherazade" arranged by Jim Casella.

Recorded in Stereo Sound, there is nothing like having the Santa Clara Vanguard drumline warming-up in your living room.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Great Drumming, Clear Recording.
Cons: You can't pick camera angles.

This is a very sweet DVD, in my opinion. SCV is one of my favorite corps out there, and I recommend this DVD.

What I liked about this video is that it contains a wide variety of warmups, and a cadence or two. It also comes with some bonus footage from last year's drumline video.

The only thing I found to be somewhat dissapointing is that you can't pick any of the camera angles. I personally love SCV's Tenor line, and could watch them play for hours. Unfortunatly, most of the video is focused on the snares (although there is somewhat an even balance).

Overall, I give this product a 9.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Great quality, entertaining
Cons: no camera angles optional, the DVD flies by a little too quickly

SCV has always been an absolute winner in my book, and you can see more of their great drumline with this DVD.

The quality of sound and picture is awesome, and the diverse warmups and show segs are extremely fun to watch. Bonuses from last year's DVD are also included in it. The thing I didn't like were how you couldn't pick if you wanted to watch individual sections. The DVD also seems very short and flies by a little too fast. Overall, it's definitely worth buying.
