Description: The epitome of carrier technology, the MAY Alumi-Vest combines the unmatched strength and lightweight of magnesium and composite material with an ultra-thin design. The result is an "under-uniform" vest that is unmatched in comfort and performance. The fit is so secure that musicians won't feel as though they're wearing carriers, but that the instrument is a natural extension of themselves. Exclusive magnesium FFSA is 25% lighter than aluminum and provides rock solid height and angle adjustments, along with flip-up design.

The MAY Alumi-Vest takes the same stable "under uniform" design as the Mag-Vest and incorporates aluminum shoulder and back bars with a fiberglass body. The result is a hard-to-beat combination of strength, stability, and comfort. The same exclusive MAY FFSA design delivers secure adjustments with one turn of the key, while lift-front design aids in transporting or adds visuals to your routine.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Distributes weight well, comfortable
Cons: Not as adjustable as other carriers, bulky under uniforms

The Randall May Alumivest is one of the most comfortable carriers that I have tried. I have one for my 14" Yamaha sFz snare and have a second vest for my Yamaha tenors, however I have unable to carry the tenors with them since the tenor harness does not fit on the J-bars.

The backbar really helps to evenly distribute the weight of the drum onto to player's frame and provides for a very comfortable fit. For those with a slightly rounder middle (read: fat) the design of the harness does tend to change the angle of the drum significantly, but that should be remedied by the leveling screws and isn't really a problem.

There are two mounting points for the J-bar connections which allow a pretty wide range of height settings, although the location of the second set changes the orientation of the J-bars slightly.

One thing that I am not fond of it the lack of adjustability on the shoulder pieces. Because the aluminum shoulder pieces are directly attached to the fiberglass chestplate, you cannot move the shoulders in or out or angle them differently for smaller players. It's not an issue for me since I am a larger person with broad shoulders that are angled almost exacly like the harness (it fits me like a glove,) however for a school band where the students are on the small side and where bodies differ greatly from one person to another, it would be a problem for some to be comfortable.

The shoulder straps and back bar themselves are on the thick side, especially if you are using the extra pad that attaches to the inside of the back bar. This tends to make the very small players (4'-5' in height) that wear the carrier under their uniforms look hunchbacked, or as if they have their shoulders up to their ears.

For my personal use the carrier is well worth it, however if you are purchasing an entire line, you might want to look at some other alternatives.
