I used to own one of these when I was just getting into marching percussion. It seemed alright at first, it could take high tension and was pretty cheap, but when I compared it to an FFX, MTS/SfZ, or a DFX, I knew this drum was scrap.
Although it can take about 3/4 the tension a FFX could (enough to handle kevlar batter heads), the plastic snares--I wouldn't call it a gut snare--don't sound like snares at all, especially with a Falam IIk on the bottom... it was more of a choked and dirty sound. Secondly, the metal and wood finish is not strong at all and scratches very easily.
If you're a serious drummer looking for a snare, save up and get the FFX, if your a beginner looking for a cheap rudimental snare, consider this snare.
